(HONOLULU, HI.)-#3 Thomas More University women's basketball team defeated #22 Concordia (Neb.) on Sunday evening (Dec. 19), 84-67 in the Hoop N Surf Classic to improve the Saints overall record to 12-1.
- Sophomore Maggie Jones (Piner, Ky./Simon Kenton) kicked things off for the Saints making a jump shot with 6:26 to play in the first quarter (2-8).
- With 2:09 to play in the first quarter, junior Summer Secrist (Taylor Mill, Ky./Scott) drove to the rim for a layup to put the Saints within nine (11-20).
- Junior Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) made a layup with 25 seconds left in the first quarter to close out the scoring for the quarter (15-22).
- Junior Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky./Conner) made a 3-point jump shot with 9:50 to play in the half to cut the Bulldogs lead to four (18-22).
- With 7:08 to play in the first half, junior Emily Simon (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) drove to the rim for a layup to give the Saints the lead for the first time of the game (27-25).
- Barth would make the final basket of the half with 50 seconds left to give the Saints a 41-36 lead going into the locker room.
- Barth led the Saints with nine points and had two rebounds.
- Secrist followed with eight points and three rebounds.
- Sophomore Rachel Martin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) led the Saints defensively with five rebounds and three assists.
- Graduate student Alexah Chrisman (Greendale, Ind./McAuley) also recorded five rebounds to lead the team.
- The Saints were 45.5% (15-33) from the field, 37.5% (6-16) from the 3-point line, and 62.5% (5-8) from the free throw line in the first half.
- Hurst would start the second half off with a layup to cut the Bulldogs lead to three (43-46) with 7:24 to play in the third quarter.
- With 4:14 to play in the third quarter, Simon would make a jumper to give the Saints the lead once again (52-50).
- Sophomore Kelly Brenner (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) made the final basket of the quarter with nine seconds left, to give the Saints a nine point lead going into the final quarter (65-56).
- Barth made the first basket of the fourth quarter to extend the Saints lead to 11 with 9:10 to play in the game (67-56).
- Smith would make a layup with 4:42 to play to make it a 75-61 game.
- Sophomore Mattison Vickers (Covington, Ky./Simon Kenton) would make the final basket for the Saints to secure their win over Concordia.
- The Saints defeated Concordia 84-67.
- Simon led the Saints in the second half with 10 points and recorded four rebounds and three assists.
- Hurst led the team with five assists in the second half and tallied nine points and one rebound.
- Secrist led the Saints defensively with five rebounds and had two points and an assist.
- The Saints were 44.1% (15-34) from the field, 30% (6-20) from the 3-point line, and 77.8% (7-9) from the free throw line in the second half.
- Hurst led the Saints with 14 points and five assists and brought down four rebounds.
- Barth also led the team with 14 points and had two rebounds and an assist.
- Simon followed with 12 points, four rebounds, and three assists.
- Secrist led the team with eight rebounds and had 10 points and an assist.
- Chrisman also led the team defensively with eight rebounds.
- The Saints were 44.8% (30-67) from the field, 33.3% (12-36) from the 3-point line, and 70.6% (12-17) from the free throw line.
The Saints return to the court on Dec. 30 as they travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. to play against Concordia (Mich.) at 5:30 pm ET.
