#4 Women's Basketball Move Pass RV Science & Arts in Day 1 of the Julie Costello Memorial Classic

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.)- #4 Thomas More University women's basketball team move pass RV Science & Arts (Oklahoma), 73-64 in day one of the Julie Costello Memorial Classic. The Saints improve their overall record to 5-1.

  • Junior guard Emily Simon (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) started things off for the Saints scoring a layup with 7:42 to go in the first quarter (2-2).
  • With 4:44 to play in the first quarter, junior Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky./Conner) drained a 3-point jump shot to give the Saints the lead (9-2) and to start their 14-0 run.
  • Junior Kenzie Schwarber (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) would make a steal down court to assist junior Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) in a layup and one to end the first quarter (25-9).
  • Simon would make a layup to kick off the scoring in the second quarter (27-11) with 7:15 to play.
  • Sophomore Maggie Jones (Piner, Ky./Simon Kenton) would make a jump shot with 3:21 to play in the half to extend the Saints lead to 34-19.
  • Hurst would secure the Saints lead going into the locker room with a layup (40-24).
  • Hurst led the Saints in the first half with 12 points and had one assist and a rebound.
  • Simon followed with eight points and led the team with six rebounds and had two assists.
  • Senior guard Taylor Clos (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) would lead the Saints with five assists and had six points and two rebounds in the first half.
  • The Saints were 45.2% (14/31) from the field, 35.7% (5/13) from the 3-point line, and 77.8% (7/9) from the free throw line in the first half. 

  • Simon was on a roll tonight starting off the third quarter as well with a layup to start the scoring of for the Saints (42-24).
  • Clos would swish a 3-pointer to extend the Saints lead to 55-33 with 4:07 to play in the third quarter.
  • Barth would make two free throws to close out the scoring for the Saints in the third quarter.
  • Graduate Student Alexah Chrisman (Glendale, Ind./Mercy) made a layup to start things off for the Saints in the fourth quarter with 9:12 on the clock (62-43).
  • Clos would make two free throws to close out the scoring for the night for the Saints.
  • The Saints would end up defeating Drovers, 73-64.
  • Simon led the Saints in the second half with eight points and two assists and had one rebound.
  • Chrisman led the Saints defensively with six rebounds.
  • The Saints were 36% (9/25) from the field, 25% (3/12) from the 3-point line, and 80% (12/15) from the free throw line in the second half.

  • Hurst led the Saints with 18 points and had three rebounds and two assists. 
  • Simon followed with 16 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.
  • Chrisman led things defensively with nine total rebounds and has two assists and six points.
  • Clos led the Saints with five assists and had 13 points and two rebounds.
  • The Saints were 41.1% (23/56) from the field, 30.8% (8/25) from the 3-point line, and 79.2% (19/24) from the free throw line. 

Next up, the Saints play #15 St. Xavier (Ill.) at 4:30 pm ET in day two of the Julie Costello Memorial Classic in the Connor Convocation Center.
