#4 Women's Basketball Win Big in First Conference Game of the Season Over Life

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.)-#4 Thomas More University women's basketball team remain undefeated at home with their 82-33 win over Life on Thursday evening (Nov. 18). The Saints overall record improves to 2-1 and 1-0 in the conference.

  • Junior Emily Simon (Hillard, Ohio/Hillard Davidson) kicked off the scoring at the 7:21 mark to put the Saints on the board (1-2).
  • To end the first quarter, sophomore Kelly Brenner (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) drained a 3-point shot to end the quarter at the buzzer and extend the Saints lead to 16-9.
  • To start the second quarter, graduate student Alexah Chrisman (Greendale, Ind./McAuley) made a layup with 9:20 on the clock, to begin the Saints 20-0 run.
  • Junior Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) would make her season debut tonight making a layup to give the Saints a 27 point lead (36-9) with 3:58 to go in the second quarter.
  • Chrisman would make back to back layups going into the locker room at the half, to give the Saints a 40-11 lead.
  • Chrisman led the Saints in the first half with 13 points and had five rebounds, one assist, and two blocks.
  • Brenner followed with 11 points and an assist.
  • Sophomore Rachel Martin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) would lead things defensively with six rebounds.
  • Simon would lead with three assists. 
  • The Saints were 46.9% (15-36) from the field, 37.5% (6-16) from the 3-point line, and 44.4% (4-9) from the free throw line in the first half.

  • To start the second half off, Chrisman made a layup to put the Saints up by 31 (42-11).
  • Brenner would continue to have a hot shooting night by swishing another 3-point jump shot with 5:58 on the clock in the third quarter to extend the Saints lead to 54-11.
  • With 53 seconds to go in the third quarter, Brenner would drain a three again to close out the scoring for the Saints in the third quarter (62-21).
  • With 6:52 to go in the game, Barth would make a jump shot for the Saints to take a 51 point lead, 72-21.
  • Sophomore Mattison Vickers (Covington, Ky/Simon Kenton) made a 3-point shot to extend the Saints lead to 77-26 with 4:05 to play in the game.
  • Shortly after that, sophomore Abby Mahan (Ludlow, Ky./Ludlow) would also drain a 3-point jump shot for her first points of her college career (80-28).
  • Junior transfer Sammi Whiteman (Covington, Ky/Covington) would make two free throws to close out the scoring for the Saints in their 82-33 win over the Running Eagles.
  • Brenner led the scoring for the Saints in the second half with 16 points.
  • Chrisman led things defensively with five rebounds.
  • Smith led the Saints with four assists in the second half.
  • The Saints were 48.3% (15-31) from the field, 31.6% (6/19) from the 3-point line, and 66.7% (6/9) from the free throw line in the second half.

  • Brenner recorded 27 points to lead the team and had one assist and one rebound.
  • Chrisman followed with 21 points, one assist, and three blocks, and led the team defensively with ten rebounds.
  • Martin followed with seven rebounds, three assists, four steals, and six points. 
  • Simon tallied six rebounds, four assists, and three points.
  • Smith led the Saints with six assists and had three rebounds and four points. 
  • The Saints were 47.6% from the field, 34.3% from the 3-point line, and 55.6% from the free throw line. 

Next up, the Saints take on Tennessee Southern on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 20) at 4:00 pm ET in the Connor Convocation Center.
