Crestview Hills, Ky. – The women's basketball program at Thomas More defeated the University of Tennessee Southern by a score of 72-52. With the win the Saints improve to 3-1 on the year and 2-0 in Mid-South Conference play while handing the FireHawks their first conference loss of the season.
- Graduate student Alexah Chrisman (Greendale, Ind./McAuley) opened the scoring for Thomas More at the 9:13 mark in the first quarter to help take a 2-0 lead.
- Junior guard Emily Simon (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) gave the Saints their biggest lead of the quarter at six by making two from the charity stripe to make the score 14-8 in favor of Thomas More.
- Sophomore Alex Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) concluded the scoring in the first with a free throw to make the score 17-18 heading into the second quarter.
- Senior guard Taylor Clos (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) would score her first points of the season as she made a three on the first possession of the quarter to make the score 21-17 Thomas More.
- Sophomore guard Kelly Brenner (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) put a halt to a FireHawk run to help give the Saints the lead back at 24-23 with 6:14 remaining in the half.
- Clos finished the half with two free throws to give Thomas More their biggest lead of the half at 37-27 heading into the locker room.
- Simon and Chrisman combined for the first eight Saints points to open the second half putting them up by a score of 45-32 with just over six minutes remaining in the third.
- Smith would put Thomas More up by 16 with a layup with 2:32 remaining in the quarter.
- Smith closed out the quarter by giving the Saints their biggest lead of the game to this point with a jumper off a Clos assist.
- Sophomore Sammi Whiteman (Covington, Ohio / Covington) checked in to start the fourth and made an instant impact with back-to-back baskets to make the score 63-43 with just over seven minutes remaining in the game.
- Sophomore Rachel Martin (Cincinnati, Ohio / Summit Country Day) gave Thomas More their biggest lead of the game at 22 as she pulled up for a 18 foot jumper to extend the score to 65-43.
- Junior guard Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) closed out the game with a three-pointer to bring the final score to 72-52, Thomas More with the victory.
- Simon led the team in scoring with 18 points and also had 11 rebounds to complete the double-double.
- Chrisman recorded 11 points and brought down seven boards.
- Martin led the team on defense with four steals while also dishing out six assists.
- Clos finished with eight points, six rebounds, and five assists.
- The Saints outrebounded the FireHawks by a 43-28 margin and out assisted them by a 21-10 mark.
The Saints return to the court on Wednesday, November 23, when they host nationally ranked Carroll (Mont.) in the Connor Convocation Center at 6 p.m. ET.
