(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The eighth-ranked Thomas More University women's basketball team extended its season-opening winning streak to 12 games today (Saturday, January 9, 2021) as it defeated Georgetown College, 71-49, in a Mid-South Conference game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
- Thomas More raced out to a 23-8 lead after one quarter.
- The Saints extended the lead to 39-20 at halftime.
- Thomas More shot 48.2 percent (13-of-27) from the field and 50 percent (seven-of-14) from behind the three-point arc.
- Sophomore guard Emily Simon (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) led the Saints in the first half with 13 points, four rebounds and two assists
- Sophomore guard Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) added eight points
- Sophomore guard/forward Kenzie Schwarber (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) pulled down four rebounds.
- Georgetown scored the first seven points in the third quarter to cut the lead to 39-27 at the halfway point of the quarter, but the Saints closed out the quarter on a 12-4 run to increase the lead to 51-31 after three quarters.
- Thomas More out-scored Georgetown 20-18 in the fourth quarter to cruise to the 71-49 victory.
- Sophomore guard Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky./Conner) scored nine points in the closing half.
- Barth added seven points in the final 20 minutes.
- The Saints improve to 12-0 overall and 7-0 in the Mid-South.
- Georgetown falls to 1-6 overall and 0-5 in the Mid-South.
- Thomas More shot 41.1 percent (23-of-56) from the field, including 41.4 percent (12-of-29) from behind the three-point arc.
- The Saints out-rebounded the Tigers 36-28.
- Simon finished the game with a game-high 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals.
- Barth finished with points, two assists and two steals.
- Hurst added 11 points.
- Schwarber and senior guard Briana McNutt (Maysville, Ky./Mason County) each pulled down five rebounds.
- The Saints return to action on Monday (January 11) when they travel to Lebanon, Tennessee to play Cumberland (Tenn.) University at 1 p.m. Central/2 p.m. Eastern.
