Women's Basketball Extend Unbeaten Streak By Defeating Cumberland University

(Lebanon, Tenn.) – Thomas More women's basketball program defeated Cumberland University by a score of 71-36. With the win the Lady Saints improve to 13-0 overall and 8-0 in conference play.

  • Sophomore Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas,Ky./Highlands) started the scoring for TMU with a three-point giving the Lady Saints a 3-2 lead with 7:39 remaining in the first period.
  • First-Year Maggie Jones (Piner, Ky./Simon Kenton) made back-to-back threes to end the first period for Thomas More giving them a 17-6 lead after one.
  • Sophomore Kenzie Schwarber (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) scored 5 of the first 7 points in the second period for the Lady Saints increasing their lead to 23-9 with 7:51 left in the period.
  • Senior Briana McNutt (Maysville, Ky./Mason County) converted an and-one to help finish out the scoring in the first half making the score 32-17 at half in favor of Thomas More.

  • Junior Taylor Clos (Alexandria, Ky./ Campbell County) Scored a three-pointer to open the second half for TMU making their lead 35-17.
  • Sophomore Summer Secrist (Taylor Mill, Ky./Scott) had 6 of the last 8 points in the third period for the Lady Saints extending their lead to 56-31 after three.
  • Sophomore Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky./Conner) scored 6 points in a minute and a half span extending TMU's lead to 35 with 5:25 remaining in the game.
  • Schwarber ended the scoring for Thomas More after converting an and-one, making the final score 71-36 in favor of the Lady Saints.

  • McNutt and Jones led TMU in scoring with 12 each.
  • McNutt, Secrist, and Emily Simon (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) had 7 rebounds each.
  • Out rebounded the Phoenix 48-36.
  • Barth led both teams in assists with 5.

Women's basketball returns to the court on Thursday January 9, where they will travel to Freed Hardeman with tip-off set for 6:30 p.m. ET.
