Three Saints Reach Double-Figures in No. 8 Thomas More's 73-61 Road Win at Georgetown

(GEORGETOWN, Ky.) – Three Saints reached double-figure scoring as the eighth-ranked Thomas More University women's basketball team remained undefeated with a 73-61 win over Georgetown College today (Monday, January 4, 2021) in a Mid-South Conference game at Davis-Reid Alumni Gym in Georgetown, Kentucky.

  • Thomas More jumped out to an 18-10 lead with 33-seconds to play in the first quarter when sophomore guard/forward Kenzie Schwarber (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) made a field goal.
  • Georgetown's Lauren Boblitt made a three-pointer with three-seconds to play in the quarter to cut the Saints' lead to 18-13 after one quarter.
  • The Tigers opened the second quarter on an 8-2 run to take a 21-20 lead when Grace White made two free-throws with 7:53 to play in the quarter.
  • Thomas More responded with a 15-7 run to close out the half and build a 35-28 lead at halftime.
  • Barth led all scorers at halftime with 11 points.
  • Junior guard Taylor Clos (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) and sophomore guard Emily Simon (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) each added five points.
  • Schwarber had four rebounds and three assists.
  • Senior forward Hayden White (Milford, Ohio/Milford) had four rebounds at the half.

  • The Saints opened the third quarter on a 19-10 run to extend the lead to 54-38 with 1:49 to play in the quarter when first-year guard Maggie Jones (Piner, Ky./Simon Kenton) made a field goal.
  • Georgetown closed out the quarter on a 4-0 to cut the lead to 54-42 after three quarters when Lexi Taylor made two free-throws with 42-seconds to play in the quarter.
  • Georgetown opened the fourth quarter on a 15-11 run to cut the lead to 65-57 when Jaylynn Landversicht converted an old fashion three-point play with 3:58 to play in the game.
  • That would be as close as the Tigers would come as Thomas More closed out the game on an 8-4 run to post the 73-61 victory.

  • Thomas More improves to 11-0 overall and 6-0 in the Mid-South.
  • Georgetown falls to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the Mid-South.
  • The Saints shot 45 percent (27-of-60) from the field.
  • Thomas More out-scored Georgetown 12-3 on second change points and 15-11 off turnovers.
  • Barth led all scorers with 21 points and had four steals, one assist, one block and two rebounds.
  • Sophomore guard Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky./Conner) had 14 points, five rebounds two steals and one assist.
  • Clos finished with 13 points, three assists, three rebounds and two steals.
  • White led the team on the boards with a game-high seven rebounds.
  • Schwarber finished with six rebounds, four assists, four points and three blocks.

  • The Saints' game against second-ranked Campbellsville University scheduled for Thursday (January 7) has been postponed and rescheduled for February 1.
  • Thomas More will now return to action on Saturday (January 9) when it hosts Georgetown at 4 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
