(PULASKI, Tenn.) -The fourth-ranked Thomas More University women's basketball team used a 25-6 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter to rally and defeat Martin Methodist College, 61-50, today (Saturday, January 30, 2021) in a Mid-South Conference game at the Robert E. Curry Christian Life Center in Pulaski, Tennessee.
- Martin Methodist jumped out to a 15-7 lead after the first quarter.
- The RedHawks took their biggest lead in the first half at 24-9 with 7:03 to play in the second quarter when Faith Sherrow made a three-pointer.
- Thomas More answered with a 14-3 run to cut the lead to 27-23 when junior guard Taylor Clos (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) made a field goal with 1:01 to play in the second quarter.
- Martin Methodist closed out the quarter on a 5-1 run to build a 32-24 lead at halftime.
- The RedHawks shot 59 percent (13-of-22) from the field, including 66.7 (two-of-three) from behind the arc in the first half, while Thomas More shot 36 percent (nine-of-25) from the field.
- Sophomore guard Emily Simon (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) had six points and two rebounds in the opening half.
- Senior guard Briana McNutt (Maysville, Ky./Mason County) added five points and three rebounds.
- Thomas More opened the third quarter on a 12-6 run capped by a field goal by McNutt to cut the lead to 38-36 with 4:16 to play in the quarter.
- The RedHawks closed out the quarter on a 6-0 run to take a 44-36 lead after three quarters.
- The Saints dominated the fourth quarter as they out-scored Martin Methodist 25-6 to post the 61-50 come-from-behind win.
- Thomas More shot 54.2 percent (13-of-24) from the field in the second half, while holding Martin Methodist to 22.2 percent (six-of-27) shooting.
- Sophomore guard Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky./Conner) tallied 13 points in the final 20 minutes.
- Sophomore guard Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) added nine points in the second half.
- The Saints improve to 18-1 overall and 13-1 in the Mid-South.
- Martin Methodist falls to 3-9 overall and 2-9 in the Mid-South.
- Thomas More shot 44.9 percent (22-of-49) from the field in the game.
- The Saints out-scored the RedHawks 32-30 in the paint and 9-4 in the second chance points.
- Hurst led the Saints with a game-high-tying 15 points, while she had four rebounds, two assists and one steal.
- McNutt had nine points and six rebounds.
- Barth finished with nine points, four rebounds, six steals and two assists.
- Simon added eight points, five rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
- The Saints return home to host top-ranked and undefeated Campbellsville University on Monday (February 1) at 5:30 p.m. inside the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
