(HENDERSON, Tenn.) – The fourth-ranked Thomas More University women's basketball defeated Freed-Hardeman University by a score of 62-59. With the win the Saints improve to 14-0 overall and 9-0 in conference play.
- Senior Briana McNutt (Maysville, Ky./Mason County) started the game off by sinking a three-pointer 18 seconds into the game giving TMU a 3-0 lead.
- First-Year Maggie Jones (Piner, Ky./Simon Kenton) made a three to close out the scoring in the first period for Thomas More, giving them a 16-7 lead.
- Sophomore Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky./Conner) drained a three to open the third putting the Lady Saints up 19-12 with 7:57 remaining in the second period.
- Sophomore Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) scored 7 straight points to end the first half giving TMU a 33-30 lead heading into halftime.
- Mcnutt scored off a back door cut on a feed from Hurst to open the third giving Thomas More a 35-30 lead with 9:40 remaining in the period.
- Barth made two free throws to end the scoring in the third for the Lady Saints, making it 50-43 after three.
- Jones pushed the lead to 10 with 4 straight points, giving TMU a 55-45 lead with 8 minutes remaining in regulation.
- Junior Taylor Clos (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) and Simon would each make a free throw to close out the game giving them a 62-59 win.
- McNutt led TMU in scoring with 22 followed by Barth with 16.
- Simon led the Lady Saints in rebounding with 7.
- Shot 52.27% from the field.
- Shot 40.9% from the three point line.
The Saints will return to action on Saturday, January 16, where they will travel to McKenzie, Tennessee to take on Bethel University, tip-off is set for 2:30 p.m. ET.
