No. 22 Thomas More Rallies to Defeat Pikeville, 61-54, in Mid-South Tournament

(BOWLING GREEN, Ky.) – The 22nd-ranked and fourth-seeded Thomas More University women's basketball team used a big second half to rally and defeat fifth-seeded University of Pikeville, 61-54, today (Friday, March 6, 2020) in the quarterfinal round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament at Bowling Green, Kentucky.

  • The Saints jumped out to an 11-2 lead with 4:45 to play in the first quarter when senior guard Kaela Saner (Florence, Ky./Boone County) made a field goal.
  • Pikeville closed the quarter on a 15-3 run to take a 17-14 lead after one quarter when Sierra Feltner made a field goal with nine-seconds to play in the quarter.
  • The Bears used a 15-4 scoring advantage in the second quarter to build a 32-18 lead at halftime.

  • Thomas More dominated the third quarter as it out-scored Pikeville 21-7 in the quarter to tie the game at 39-39 after three quarters when first-year guard Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky./Conner) made a field goal with 42-seconds to play in the quarter.
  • Pikeville opened the fourth quarter on a 7-2 run capped by two free-throws by Brianna Burbridge to take a 46-41 lead with 6:27 to play in the quarter.
  • Undaunted the Saints closed out the game on a 20-8 run capped by two free-throws by first-year guard Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) with 26-seconds to play in the game to post the 61-54 victory.

  • The Saints improve to 21-9 with the win.
  • The Bears fall to 16-15.
  • Saner was named the Player of the Game by the Mid-South as she had 17 points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal.
  • Barth finished 13 points, five rebounds, seven assists and three steals.
  • Hurst added 13 points, two steals and one rebounds
  • Senior forward Emily Schultz (Melbourne, Ky./Bishop Brossart) had nine points, nine rebounds, one assist and one steal.
  • Sophomore forward Kaylin Burdick (Cincinnati, Ohio/West Clermont) had five points and seven rebounds.

  • Thomas More advances to play No. 2-ranked and top-seeded Campbellsville University in the semifinals on Sunday (March 8) at 2 p.m. Eastern/1 p.m. Central at Bowling Green Arena.
