Thomas More Defeats Georgetown, 83-51

(GEORGETOWN, Ky.) – The Thomas More University women's basketball team defeated Georgetown College, 83-51, tonight (Thursday, February 6, 2020) in a Mid-South Conference game at Davis-Reid Alumni Gymnasium in Georgetown, Kentucky.

  • Georgetown jumped out to a 5-0 lead with 8:00 to play in the first quarter when Madison Darnell made a field goal.
  • The Saints answered with an 18-4 run to close the opening quarter and took an 18-9 lead after one quarter when junior forward Hayden White (Milford, Ohio/Milford) made a field goal with 32-seconds to play.
  • The Tigers opened the second quarter on a 6-2 run to cut the lead to 20-15 with 9:14 to play in the quarter when Alexis Stapleton made a three-pointer.
  • Thomas More closed out the second quarter on a 21-10 run capped by two free-throws by first-year guard Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) with 25-seconds to play in the quarter to extend the lead to 41-25 at halftime.
  • The Saints shot 53.57 percent (15-of-28) from the field, including 45.45 percent (five-of-11) from behind the three-point arc.
  • Senior forward Emily Schultz (Melbourne, Ky./Bishop Brossart) had 10 points and three rebounds in the first half.
  • Barth had nine points, four rebounds and two assists.
  • First-year guard Summer Secrist (Taylor Mill, Ky./Scott) had six points and four rebounds.

  • Georgetown out-scored Thomas More 16-14 in the third quarter and the Saints led 55-41 after three quarters.
  • That would be as close as the Tigers would come as Thomas More used a 28-10 advantage in scoring in the fourth quarter to cruise to the 83-51 victory.

  • Thomas More improves to 17-7 overall and 6-5 in the Mid-South.
  • Georgetown falls to 13-11 overall and 4-7 in the Mid-South.
  • The Saints shot 49.2 percent (29-of-59) from the field for the game, including 46.7 (seven-of-15) percent from behind the arc, while shooting 75 percent (18-of-24) from the free-throw line.
  • Schultz finished with 20 points, eight rebounds and one blocked shot.
  • Barth added 18 points, six rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal.
  • First-year guard Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky./Conner) had 13 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals.

  • The Saints are idle until February 15 when they host the University of the Cumberlands at 2 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
