Barth Leads 22nd-Ranked Saints to a 78-67 Overtime Win at Cumberland

(LEBANON, Tenn.) – Thomas More University first-year guard Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) scored a career-high 24 points and led the 22nd-ranked Saints to a 78-67 overtime win over Cumberland (Tenn.) University today (Saturday, February 29, 2020) in a Mid-South Conference game in Lebanon, Tennessee.

  • Cumberland jumped out to a 13-5 lead when Kerrice Watson made a jumper with 3:56 to play in the first quarter.
  • The Saints used a 13-2 run capped by a jumper by senior forward Emily Schultz (Melbourne, Ky./Bishop Brossart) to take an 18-15 lead with 15-seconds to play in the first quarter.
  • The Phoenix made two free-throws to end the first quarter and cut the Saints' lead to 18-17.
  • Thomas More opened the second quarter on a 6-0 run to extend the lead to 24-17 with 8:13 to play in the quarter when Barth made a three-pointer.
  • Cumberland went on an 8-3 run to cut the lead to 27-25 when Watson converted an old fashion three-point play with 3:11 to play in the second quarter.
  • The Saints closed out the second quarter on a 6-2 run to extend the lead to 33-27 at halftime.

  • Thomas More opened the third quarter on an 8-0 run to extend the lead to 41-27 with 8:24 to play in the quarter when Barth made two free-throws.
  • Cumberland responded with a 10-2 run capped by a three-pointer by Ashlyn Pittman to cut the lead to 43-37 with 2:47 to play in the third quarter.
  • The Saints closed out the quarter on a 6-2 run to take a 49-39 lead after three quarters.
  • The Phoenix opened the fourth quarter on a 19-8 capped by a Mackenzie Trouten three-pointer to take a 58-57 lead with 1:15 to play in the fourth quarter.
  • Barth made a jumper with 10-seconds to play in the fourth quarter to give Thomas More a 59-58 lead.
  • Pittman made a three-pointer with five-seconds to play in regulation to put Cumberland up 61-59.
  • Barth answered again with a jumper with one-seconds to play to tie the game at 61-61 and force overtime.

  • Thomas More controlled overtime and out-scored Cumberland 17-6 to post the 78-67 overtime victory.

  • Thomas More finishes the regular season at 20-9 overall and 9-7 in the Mid-South.
  • Cumberland finishes the regular season at 8-19 overall and 2-14 in the Mid-South.
  • Barth finished with 24 points, eight rebounds, one assist and one steal.
  • Schultz finished with a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds to go with two assists, two blocks and two steals.
  • Senior guard Kaela Saner (Florence, Ky./Boone County) also posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while recording two assists and two steals.
  • First-year guard Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky./Conner) finished with 13 points, four rebounds, three assists, two blocks and one steal.

  • The Saints will be the fourth seed in next week's Mid-South Conference Championship Tournament held at the Bowling Green High School Arena in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
  • Thomas More will play fifth-seeded University of Pikeville on Friday (March 6) at 4 p.m. Eastern/3 p.m. Central in the quarterfinal round.
