(CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.) – The 22nd-ranked Thomas More University women's basketball team's fourth quarter rally fell short tonight (Thursday, February 20, 2020) as it fell, 85-76, to third-ranked Campbellsville University in a Mid-South Conference game at the Powell Athletic Center in Campbellsville, Kentucky.
- Campbellsville jumped out to a 16-5 lead with 6:39 to play in the first quarter when Lexy Lake made a three-pointer.
- Thomas More answered with a 17-10 to cut the lead to 26-22 after one quarter when first-year guard Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky./Conner) made a three-pointer at the buzzer at the end of the quarter.
- The Tigers opened the second quarter on an 8-5 run to increase the lead to 34-27 when Caitlin Hall made a three-pointer with 5:15 to play in the quarter.
- Sophomore guard Lucy Carrigan (Rising Sun, Ind./Rising Sun) made two free-throws with 2:49 in the second quarter to cap a 6-2 run to cut the lead to 36-33 with 2:49 to play in the second quarter.
- Campbellsville used a 7-0 run to increase the lead to 43-33 with 40-seconds to play in the quarter when Madison Faulkner made a jumper.
- First-year guard Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) made a lay-up with 26-seconds to play in the second quarter to cut the lead to 43-35 at halftime.
- The Saints shot 53.8 percent (14-of-26) from the field in the first half, including 50 percent (four-of-eight) from behind the three-point arc.
- Senior forward Emily Schultz (Melbourne, Ky./Bishop Brossart) led the team in the first half with 10 points and three rebounds.
- Senior guard Kaela Saner (Florence, Ky./Boone County) added eight points.
- First-year guard Summer Secrist (Taylor Mill, Ky./Scott) led the team on the boards with six rebounds.
- The Tigers opened the third quarter on a 16-5 run to extend the lead to 59-40 when Hall made a three-pointer with 4:26 to play in the quarter.
- Thomas More cut the lead to 62-51 after three quarters when Secrist capped an 11-3 run with a lay-up with 1:34 to play in the quarter.
- Campbellsville opened the fourth quarter on a 13-10 run to increase the lead to 74-61 lead with 3:01 to play in the game when Hall made two free-throws.
- The Saints cut the lead to 76-70 with 1:35 to play in the game when Schultz made a lay-up to cap a 9-2 run.
- That would be as close as Thomas More would come as Campbellsville closed out the game on a 9-6 run to post the 85-76 victory.
- Thomas More shot 56 percent (14-of-25) from the field in the second half.
- Schultz had 11 points and five rebounds in the second half.
- Secrist added eight points and three rebounds in the half.
- Hurst had seven points and an assist in the closing half.
- Thomas More falls to 18-8 overall and 7-6 in the Mid-South.
- Campbellsville improves to 26-2 overall and 12-2 in the Mid-South.
- For the game, the Saints shot 54.9 percent (28-of-51) from the field.
- Schultz finished with 21 points and eight rebounds.
- Saner had 13 points and two rebounds.
- Secrist added 12 points, nine rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal.
- Hurst finished with 11 points and two rebounds.
- The Saints return to action on Saturday (February 22) when they travel to Columbia, Kentucky to play 12th-ranked Lindsey Wilson College at 3 p.m. Eastern/2 p.m. Central.
