Women's Basketball Top IU-East to Kickoff 2020-21 Campaign

(Crestview Hills, Ky.) – Thomas More's women's basketball team defeated IU-East 94-71 to open the season on Tuesday night (November 3).

  • Junior guard Taylor Clos (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) kicked off the scoring for the Lady Saints with 8:24 remaining in the first quarter making the score 2-2.
  • TMU fell behind 15-10 before making a 13-0 run led by senior forward Hayden White (Milford, Ohio/Milford) who had 7 of the 13 points.
  • Sophomore Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky./Conner) drained a three-pointer to open the second quarter giving the Lady Saints a 28-20 lead.
  • First-year Maggie Jones (Piner, Ky./Simon Kenton) hit a three to extend TMU's lead to 47-35 to end the half.

  • IU-East cut the lead to 8 before sophomore Emily Simon (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) would get a steal and score prompting a 20-2 run by Thomas More.
  • Hurst would make a lay-up and three-pointer at the end of the third giving the Lady Saints a 70-49 lead.
  • The Red-Wolves cut the lead to 13 before senior Brianna McNutt (Maysville, Ky./Mason County) hit a jump shot to stop the run, extending the lead to 15.
  • Sophomore Kenzie Schwarber (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) would hit a three-pointer to ice the game for TMU with 2:54 remaining in the game.

  • Team shot 51.4% for the game and 88.9% from the free throw line.
  • Outrebounded IU-East 40-26.
  • Hurst scored 21 and Sophomore Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) scored 14 to lead the Lady Saints in scoring.
  • McNutt and Schwarber led TMU in rebounding with 8 each.

  • The Saints return to the court on Thursday where they will host the seventh ranked Fire of Southeastern University in the Connor Convocation Center at 7:30 p.m. ET.
