McNutt's Hot Start and Barth's Big Fourth Quarter Pushes #14 Thomas More Past #3 Marian

(Indianapolis, Ind.) – The 14th-ranked Thomas More University women's basketball program gets a signature win against third-ranked Marian University (Ind.) on Sunday (November 11) by a score of 64-61.

 

  • Senior Briana McNutt (Maysville, Ky./Mason County) would score 8 straight points in the first quarter giving the Lady Saints a 11-8 lead.
  • Freshman Maggie Jones (Piner, Ky./Simon Kenton) made a jump shot giving Thomas More a 13-8 lead with 2:19 left in the first.
  • Jones would make two straight baskets to start the second for TMU giving them a 21-13 lead.
  • Sophomore Summer Secrist (Taylor Mill, Ky./Scott) made a layup pushing the lead to 30-17 with 1:34 remaining in the first half.

  • Sophomore Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky./Conner) hit a three-pointer with 5:04 left in the third to give TMU their biggest lead of the game at 43-25.
  • Sophomore Kenzie Schwarber (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) scored the last bucket for the Lady Saints in the third giving them a 47-34 lead.
  • Sophomore Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky./ Highlands) scored the last 9 points of the game for Thomas More including the game winning free throws with 15 seconds remaining.
  • Sophomore Emily Simon (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) took a potential game saving charge with 7 seconds remaining to give the Lady Saints the ball back up 1.

 

  • Shot 44.1% from the field and 81.3% from the free throw line.
  • Outrebounded Marian 35-31.
  • McNutt scored 21 points and pulled down 9 rebounds
  • Barth would score all 14 of her points in the fourth quarter and 14 of TMU's 17 total in the fourth.

 

  • The Saints return to the Connor Convocation Center on Thursday (November 19) at 5:30 p.m. to kick-off Mid-South Conference play against conference newcomer Martin Methodist College.
