Thomas More Defeats Life, 102-96, In Double Overtime

(MARIETTA, Ga.) – The Thomas More University women's basketball team defeated Life University, 102-96, in double overtime today (Saturday, January 18, 2020) in a Mid-South Conference game at The Eagles' Nest in Marietta, Georgia.

  • Thomas More jumped out to a 6-3 lead with 7:49 to play in the first quarter when senior forward Emily Schultz (Melbourne, Ky./Bishop Brossart) made two free-throws.
  • Life answered with a 5-2 run to tie the game at 8-8 when Maeisha Teasley made a jumper with 6:57 to play in the quarter.
  • The Saints closed out the first quarter on a 21-12 run to take a 29-20 lead after one quarter when first-year guard Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) made a three-pointer with 31-seconds to play in the quarter.
  • The Running Eagles scored the first four points of the second quarter to cut the lead to 29-24 when Tierra Tullis made a jumper with 8:41 to play in the quarter.
  • Thomas More out-scored Life 18-13 over the rest of the second quarter to extend the lead to 47-37 at halftime with Barth made two free-throws with second-seconds to play in the quarter.
  • The Saints shot 53.3 percent (16-of-30) from the field, including 36.4 (four-of-11) from behind the three-point arc in the first half.
  • Barth scored 10 points and had five assists in the first half.
  • Schultz added 10 points.
  • Sophomore forward Kaylin Burdick (Cincinnati, Ohio/West Clermont) finished with nine points and four rebounds in the first half.

  • The Running Eagles opened the third quarter on a 23-14 run capped by a Tullis jumper to cut the Saints' lead to 61-60 with 2:32 to play in the quarter.
  • Thomas More closed out the quarter on an 8-5 run to extend the lead to 69-65 after three quarters when Schultz made one-of-two free-throws with 13-seconds to play in the quarter.
  • Schultz made a jumper to open the fourth quarter to extend the Saints lead to 71-65 with 9:31 to play in regulation.
  • Life closed out the fourth quarter on a 15-9 run to tie the game at 80-80 and force overtime when Kiana Glenn made a three-pointer with 59-seconds to play in regulation.

  • In the first overtime period the two teams exchanged baskets as they each scored 10 points to force double overtime at 90-90.
  • In the second overtime Thomas More out-scored Life, 10-6, to post the 102-96 victory.

  • Thomas More improves to 14-5 overall and 3-3 in the Mid-South.
  • Life falls to 8-8 overall and 1-6 in the Mid-South.
  • The Saints shot 47.3 percent (35-of-74) from the field in the game.
  • Schultz led all scorers with 22 points, while pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds for a double-double.
  • Barth also recorded a double-double as she scored 18 points and dished out 12 assists.
  • First-year guard Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky./Conner) scored 14 points, pulled down five rebounds and had three assists.
  • Senior guard Kaela Saner (Florence, Ky./Boone County) scored 14 points and had six rebounds.
  • Burdick finished with 13 points and five rebounds.
  • First-year guard Summer Secrist (Taylor Mill, Ky./Scott) added 10 points.

  • Thomas More returns to action on Thursday (January 23) when it hosts 12th-ranked Lindsey Wilson at 6 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
