(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – Thomas More University first-year guard Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky./Conner) connected on six three-pointers tonight (Thursday, January 16, 2020) to lead the Saints to a 73-62 win over Cumberland (Tenn.) University in a Mid-South Conference game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
- Cumberland jumped out to an 11-3 lead when Mackenzie Trouten made a three-pointer with 6:32 to play in the first quarter.
- The Saints answered with a 9-4 run to cut the lead to 15-12 after one quarter when senior forward Emily Schultz (Melbourne, Ky./Bishop Brossart) made a lay-up with 1:28 to play in the quarter.
- Thomas More opened the second quarter on an 18-6 run to build a 32-21 lead when first-year guard Summer Secrist (Taylor Mill, Ky./Scott) made a lay-up with 3:03 to play in the quarter.
- The Phoenix cut the lead to 33-24 at halftime.
- Cumberland opened the third quarter on a 15-8 run to cut the lead to 40-36 with 4:13 to play in the quarter when Abby Morgan made a lay-up.
- Thomas More closed the third quarter on a 7-2 run capped by a lay-up by sophomore forward Kaylin Burdick (Cincinnati, Ohio/West Clermont) with 24-seconds to play to give the Saints a 47-38 lead after three quarters.
- The Saints led by as many as 17 points in the fourth quarter as they out-scored the Phoenix 26-24 to post the 73-62 victory.
- Thomas More improved to 13-5 overall and 2-3 in the Mid-South.
- Cumberland fell to 5-11 overall and 0-6 in the Mid-South.
- The Saints had a 20-9 advantage in points off turnovers and 11-9 on second chance points.
- Hurst led all scorers with 24 points, while she added three assists and three steals.
- Schultz finished with a double-double as she had 10 points and 10 rebounds, while blocking four shots.
- First-year guard Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) added 12 points, five assists and two steals.
- Senior guard Kaela Saner (Florence, Ky./Boone County) had six points and six rebounds.
- Burdick finished with six points, five rebounds and two assists.
- The Saints return to the hardwood on Saturday (January 18) when they travel to Marietta, Georgia for a 2 p.m. Mid-South Conference game with Life University.
