(PLAINVIEW, Texas) – The 20th-ranked Thomas More University women's basketball team fell, 92-78, to sixth-ranked Wayland Baptist University today (Saturday, December 7, 2019) at the Hutcherson Center in Plainview, Texas.
- The Flying Queens led 28-17 after one quarter and 43-25 at halftime.
- Thomas More shot 26.4 percent (nine-of-34) from the field, including 15.3 percent (two-of-13) from behind the three-point arc.
- Junior guard Syarra Sellers (Aurora, Ohio/Aurora) led the team in scoring with nine points in the opening half.
- Senior forward Emily Schultz (Melbourne, Ky./Bishop Brossart) added six points.
- Wayland Baptist opened the half on a 12-8 run to extend the lead to 55-33 with 3:19 to play in the third quarter.
- The Saints closed the quarter on a 13-4 run to cut the lead to 59-13 after three quarters when senior guard Kaela Saner (Florence, Ky./Boone County) made a three-pointer with four-seconds to play in the quarter.
- The Flying Queens led by as many as 21 in the fourth quarter as they out-scored Thomas More 33-32 to post the 92-78 victory.
- In the second half, Thomas More shot 54.5 percent (18-of-33) from the field, including 54.5 percent (six-of-11) from behind the arc.
- First-year guard Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky./Conner) led the Saints in the second half with 16 points.
- Saner added nine points in the second half.
- Thomas More falls to 7-2, while Wayland Baptist improves to 7-2.
- The Saints shot 40.3 percent (27-of-67) from the field for the game.
- Hurst led the team in scoring with 18 points as she pulled down six rebounds.
- Sellers finished with 17 points in the game.
- Schultz added 13 points and five rebounds.
- Saner had nine points and eight rebounds.
- The Saints return to the hardwood next Saturday (December 14) when they travel to Marion, Indiana to play Indiana Wesleyan University at 1 p.m.
