(MARION, Ind.) – The 20th-ranked Thomas More University women's basketball team defeated Indiana Wesleyan University, 61-42, today (Saturday, December 14, 2019) in a non-conference game in Marion, Indiana.
- Thomas More jumped out to an early 12-4 lead with 5:57 to play in the first quarter when senior forward Emily Schultz (Melbourne, Ky./Bishop Brossart) made a jumper.
- Indiana Wesleyan closed the first quarter on a 14-5 run to cut the lead to 18-17 after one quarter when Jenee Goodwin made a three-pointer.
- Each team scored nine points in the second quarter and the Saints led 27-26 at halftime.
- IWU opened the third quarter on a 6-2 run to take a 32-29 lead when Madison Davis made a three-pointer with 6:49 to play in the quarter.
- Undaunted, the Saints closed out the quarter on a 13-2 run to build a 42-34 lead after three quarters when first-year guard Summer Secrist (Taylor Mill, Ky./Scott) made a jumper with three-seconds to play in the quarter.
- Thomas More out-scored Indiana Wesleyan 19-8 in the fourth quarter to post the 61-42 victory.
- Thomas More improves to 8-2 and Indiana Wesleyan falls to 7-5.
- The Saints out-scored Indiana Wesleyan 15-7 off turnovers and 8-7 in second chance points.
- Schultz recorded a double-double as she scored a game-high 16 points and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.
- First-year guard Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) added 11 points, while dishing out four assists and recording five steals.
- First-year guard Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky./Conner) just finished outside double-figures with nine points.
- The Saints return to the court on Tuesday (December 17) when they host the University of the Virgin Islands at 6 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center.
- Thomas More will retire Sydney Moss' '16 jersey in pregame ceremony scheduled to begin at 5:45 p.m.
