Schultz Scores 1,000th Career Point in 95-36 Win Over Virgin Islands

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – Thomas More University senior forward Emily Schultz (Melbourne, Ky./Bishop Brossart) became the 20th Thomas More women's basketball student-athlete to score 1,000 career points and the 20th-ranked Saints defeated the University of the Virgin Islands, 95-36, tonight (Tuesday, December 17, 2019) at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

  • Schultz scored her 1,000th career point on a lay-up with 8:32 to play in the first quarter.
  • The Saints led 27-10 after one quarter and 58-18 at halftime.
  • Thomas More shot 51.3 percent (20-of-39) from the field, including 45.5 percent (10-of-22) from behind the three-point arc.
  • Senior guard Kaela Saner (Florence, Ky./Boone County) scored 12 points.
  • First-year guard Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky./Conner) had 12 points and three assists.
  • First-year guard Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) tallied eight points, dished out five assists and had four rebounds.

  • The Saints led 72-26 after the third quarter and outscored Virgin Islands 23-10 in the fourth.
  • Thomas More shot 37.9 percent (11-of-29) from the field in the second half and made 13-of-17 free throws (76.5 percent).
  • Sophomore guard Lucy Carrigan (Rising Sun, Ind./Rising Sun) and junior guard Syarra Sellers (Aurora, Ohio/Aurora) both scored seven points in the fourth quarter.

  • Thomas More improved to 9-2, while Virgin Islands fell to 0-11.
  • The Saints shot 31-of-68 from the field (45.6 percent) and 12-of-30 from three-point range (40 percent).

  • The Saints travel to Chandler, Arizona December 19-21 to compete in the Phoenix Frontier Classic.
  • Thomas More will open the tournament against the University of Montana Western at 6 p.m. Eastern/4 p.m. Mountain on Thursday (December 19).
