No. 21 Saints Defeat Rochester, 74-64, in Skyline Chili Classic

(CINCINNATI, Ohio) – The 21st-ranked Thomas More University women's basketball team defeated Rochester (Mich.) University, 74-64, today (Saturday, October 26, 2019) on the second day of the Skyline Chili Classic hosted by Cincinnati Christian University in Cincinnati, Ohio.

  • Thomas More jumped out to a 22-9 lead with 3:29 to play in the first quarter when first-year guard Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky./Conner) made a jumper.
  • Rochester closed the first quarter on a 6-2 run to cut the lead to 24-15 after one quarter.
  • RU opened the second quarter on a 7-2 run to cut the lead to 26-22 with 7:32 to play in the quarter.
  • The Saints answered with a 14-4 run to build a 40-26 lead with 2:55 to play in the first half when senior forward Emily Schultz (Melbourne, Ky./Bishop Brossart) made a jumper.
  • The Warriors closed out the first half on an 8-2 run to cut the Saints' lead to 42-34 at halftime.

  • Rochester came out of halftime on a 17-2 run to take a 51-44 lead with 4:52 to play in the third quarter.
  • Undaunted, the Saints responded with a 14-2 run capped by a jumper by first-year guard Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) to take a 58-53 lead after three quarters.
  • In the fourth quarter, Thomas More led by as many as 13 points as it went on to post the 74-64 victory.

  • Thomas More shot 40 percent from the field (24-of-60).
  • The Saints had a 22-18 advantage in the paint, 19-13 off turnovers and 16-10 on second chance points.
  • Senior guard Kaela Saner (Florence, Ky./Boone County) led the team in scoring with 17 points. 
  • Schultz finished with 15 points and five rebounds.
  • Barth had 13 points in the game.
  • Hurst finished 10 points, pulled down a game-high eight rebounds and dished out a game-high six assists.

  • Thomas More is idle until November 5 when it travels to Richmond, Indiana to play Indiana University – East at 5 p.m.
