(RICHMOND, Ind.) – The 21st-ranked Thomas More University women's basketball team remained undefeated tonight (Tuesday, November 5, 2019) as it defeated Indiana University-East, 76-58 at Lingle Court in Richmond, Indiana.
- The Saints raced out to a 22-8 lead with 2:44 to play in the first quarter when junior guard Briana McNutt (Maysville, Ky./Mason County) made a three-pointer.
- IU-East closed the quarter on an 8-2 run to cut the lead to 24-16 after one quarter.
- Thomas More opened the second quarter on a 12-7 run to build a 32-22 lead with 3:16 to play in the quarter when first-year guard Summer Secrist (Taylor Mill, Ky./Scott) made a jumper.
- The Red Wolves closed the quarter on a 5-3 run to cut the lead to 39-28 at halftime.
- Thomas More shot 42.9 percent (15-of-35) from the field, including 44.4 percent (four-of-nine) from behind the arc in the first half.
- The Saints opened the second half on a 7-0 run to build a 46-28 lead when senior forward Emily Schultz (Melbourne, Ky./Bishop Brossart) made a jump with 7:06 to play in the third stanza.
- IU-East responded with an 18-7 run to cut the lead to 53-46 when Maegan Harlow made a field goal with 7:35 to play in the game.
- That would be as close as IU-East would come as Thomas More extended the lead to as many as 22 points and closed the game on a 22-12 run to post the 76-58 victory.
- The Saints shot 56.7 percent (17-of-30) from the field in the second half.
- Thomas More improve to 3-0 on the season.
- IU-East falls to 1-2.
- The Saints out-scored the Red Wolves 32-24 in the paint.
- Senior guard Kaela Saner (Florence, Ky./Boone County) recorded a double-double with 12 points and game-high 11 rebounds.
- Schultz led the team in scoring with 16 points, pulled down nine rebounds and blocked three shots.
- First-year guard Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) had 14 points, dished out a game-high seven assists and had five steals.
- McNutt finished with 13 points and two assists.
- First-year guard Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky./Hebron) had 12 points, three assists and three steals.
- Thomas More is idle until November 16 when it hosts the University of Michigan-Dearborn at 6 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
