Box Score (BETHANY, W.Va.) – The Thomas More College baseball rallied from an early deficit to defeat Bethany College, 5-3, today (Friday, April 29, 2016) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at Bethany Field in Bethany, West Virginia.
With the win, the Saints improve to 25-7 and 19-2 in the PAC as it clinched at least a share of the PAC regular season and hosting rights for the upcoming PAC Championship Tournament. With the loss, the Bison fall to 7-25 and 3-15 in the PAC.
Bethany scored three runs in the first to take a 3-0 lead and then Thomas More scored one in the eighth and two in the ninth to force extra innings. The Saints would plate two runs in the 10th for the 5-3 victory.
Freshman pitcher Ethan Kramer (Sunman, Ind./East Central) had no-decision as he pitched six inning and gave up three runs (all earned) on seven hits and struck out six. Freshman pitcher Jonathan Breeden (Erlanger, Ky./Dixie Heights) pitched one scoreless innings of relief and then freshman pitcher Adam Ruwe (Park Hills, Ky./Covington Catholic) earned the win as he pitched two scoreless innings of relief and struck out one. Junior pitcher Ken Ruberg (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) earned the save as he pitched one inning and gave up one hit, while striking out one.
Three Saints had multiple hits in the game as sophomore third baseman Bailey Abbatiello (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) was three-for-five with two doubles, three runs batted-in and one run scored, senior first baseman Donovan Pogue (Sharonville, Ohio/St. Xavier) was two-for-three with a double and two runs scored and senior shortstop Marcus Woelfel (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) was two-for-four with a double.
The Saints' non-conference game scheduled for Sunday (May 1) has been cancelled. Thomas More is next scheduled to play when it travels to Washington, Pennsylvania on May 7 for a doubleheader with Washington & Jefferson College beginning at 1 p.m.
