Box Score 2 (BETHANY, W.Va.) – The Thomas More College baseball team swept a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader with Bethany College today (Saturday, March 21, 2015) at Bethany Park in Bethany, West Virginia. The Saints won game one, 9-4, and the nightcap, 6-1.
With the sweep, the Saints improve to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the PAC and the Bison fall to 4-7 overall and 0-2 in the PAC.
In the first game, junior pitcher Logan Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) earned the complete game win as he pitched seven innings and gave up four runs (two earned) on eight hits and struck out four.
Senior catcher Brad Popham (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights) led the team at the plate as he was three-for-four with two doubles and two runs batted-in. Two other Saints had multiple hits in the game as senior first baseman Nick Connor (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was two-for-three with a RBI and sophomore right fielder Ben Kenning (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was two-for-four with a run scored and two RBI.
In the nightcap, junior designated hitter Donovan Pogue (Sharonville, Ohio/St. Xavier) led the Saints as he was two-for-four with two home runs, three RBI and two runs scored, while Kenning was four-for-four with a run scored. Sophomore center fielder Casey Metzger (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was two-for-three with two runs scored.
Freshman pitcher Austin Koch (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) earned the win as he pitched five innings and gave up one run on four hits, while striking out one. Sophomore pitcher Ken Ruberg (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) pitched two innings of relief and gave up one hit and struck out two.
Thomas More and Bethany close out the three-game PAC series tomorrow with a single nine-inning game at 12 p.m. in Bethany, West Virginia.
