Box Score (AUBURNDALE, Fla.) – The Thomas More College baseball team used a five-run second inning to propel it to a 13-3 win over Albion College today (Tuesday, March 10, 2015) on the second day of the Central Florida Invitational in the Auburndale Complex in Auburndale, Florida.
With the win, the Saints improve to 1-1 and with the loss, the Britons fall to 1-1.
Albion scored two runs in the bottom of the first, but the Saints batted around in the second inning to plate five runs to take a 5-2 lead. Thomas More would then score one in the fourth, one in the sixth, three in the seventh, one in the eighth and two in the ninth, while holding Albion to only one more run in the fourth for the 13-3 victory.
Freshman second baseman Ben Laumann (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) led the team at the plate as he was two-for-three with a double, two runs scored and four runs batted-in. Junior designated hitter Donovan Pogue (Sharonville, Ohio/St. Xavier) also had a multiple hit game as he was two-for-five.
Freshman pitcher Brandon Eliadis (Laurenceburg, Ky./Anderson County) earned his first collegiate win in his first collegiate start as he pitched seven innings giving up three runs (all earned) on seven hits, while striking out five. Junior pitcher Chris Auer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) pitched one shutout inning, while giving up one hit and striking out one. Freshman pitcher Noah Frantz (Crestwood, Ky./South Oldham) pitched one shutout inning and gave up one hit.
Thomas More returns to action tomorrow as it plays St. Joseph's (Maine) College in a doubleheader. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the Chain of Lakes Complex.
