Box Score 2 (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More College baseball team swept Geneva College today (Saturday, March 22, 2014) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. The Saints won game one, 7-0, and the nightcap 4-2.
With the sweep the Saints improve to 5-6 overall and 2-1 in the PAC and the Golden Tornadoes fall to 2-11 overall and 1-2 in the PAC.
In the first game of the day, the Saints scored one run in the first, one in the second, one in the fourth, one in the fifth and three in the sixth, while junior pitcher Tim Baldrick (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) pitched a complete game seven inning shutout. He gave up five hits, while striking out one and walking two.
Three Saints had multiple hits in the game as sophomore designated hitter Donovan Pogue (Sharonville, Ohio/St. Xavier) was two-for-three with a double, a run batted-in and a run scored, junior first baseman Craig Hyson (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) was two-for-four with a RBI and a run scored and sophomore catcher Frank Rosenaker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was two-for-three with a RBI and two runs scored.
In the nightcap, Thomas More scored two in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the sixth and held Geneva to only one in the fifth.
Hyson led the Saints at the plate as he was two-for-three with two doubles, a RBI and a run scored. Two other Saints had multiple hits in the game as Pogue was two-for-three with a run scored and senior right fielder Cody Makin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was two-for-three with a RBI and a run scored.
Sophomore pitcher Logan Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) earned the win on the mound as he pitched five and a third innings and gave up two runs (both earned) on five hits, while striking out three. Senior pitcher Andy Roenker (Taylor Mill, Ky./Holy Cross) earned the save as he pitched one and two-thirds innings of relief and didn't allow a run or hit, while striking out one.
The Saints return to the diamond on Tuesday (March 25) when they travel to Lexington, Kentucky to play in-state rival Transylvania University. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
