Box Score 2 (FRANKLIN, Ind.) - The Thomas More College baseball team fell twice to Franklin College today (Saturday, March 1, 2014) in a non-conference doubleheader at John P. McDowell Field in Franklin, Indiana. Franklin won game one, 8-4, and the nightcap, 5-0.
With the two losses, the Saints fall to 0-2 and with the two wins, Franklin improves to 5-2.
In the first game Thomas More had four runs on nine hits and four Franklin errors. Junior first baseman Craig Hyson (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) led the team at the plate as he was three-for-four with a double and a run batted-in, while senior Jason Handley (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was two-for-four with a triple and a double.
Sophomore pitcher Brandon Humphrey (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) suffered the loss as he pitched three and two-third innings and gave up seven runs (five earned) on five hits and struck out three.
In the nightcap, the Saints were held to two hits. Handley and senior designated hitter Travis Miller (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) each had a hit in the game.
Sophomore pitcher Logan Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) suffered the loss on the mound as he pitched five innings and gave up four runs (all earned) on seven hits and struck out three.
Thomas More returns to the diamond on Tuesday (March 4) when it hosts Hanover College in its home opener at Thomas More Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
