Box Score 2 (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More College volleyball team split two Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matches at a home tri-match today (Saturday, October 5, 2013) on Homecoming at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. The Saints defeated Geneva College, 3-1, but fell, 3-2, to Bethany College.
With the split, the Saints are 12-4 overall and 7-2 in the PAC.
Thomas More defeated Geneva in the first match of the day by the scores of 25-23, 20-25, 25-23 and 25-18. Sophomore outside hitter Stacy Howell (Cincinnati, Ohio/Glen Este) led the team in kills with nine, while junior outside hitter Felicity Britt (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart), sophomore middle hitter Jessica Knaley (Florence, Ky./St. Henry) and freshman middle hitter Marisa Meyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) each had eight kills. Sophomore outside hitter Holly Bronner (Reading, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) led the team in 32 assists, while freshman defensive specialist Tara Melzer (Ross, Ohio/Ross) led the team in service aces with four.
Defensively, the Saints had three players with double-digit digs as junior defensive specialist Kelsey Castiglioni (Harrison Township, Mich./L'Anse) had 19, freshman outside hitter Sydney Bragg (Huron, Ohio/Huron) had 14 and Bronner had 11.
In the second match of the day, the Saints fell to Bethany by the scores of 24-26, 25-19, 18-25, 25-23 and 15-12. Meyer and Howell led the team in kills with 15 and 13 respectively. Bronner led the team in assists with 40 and service aces with four.
Castiglioni led the team in digs with 26, while Melzer added 13, Knaley had 12 and Bragg and senior defensive specialist Brittany Rohrkasse (Mason, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) each had 11.
Thomas More returns to action on Wednesday (October 9) when it travels to Franklin, Indiana to play Franklin College in a 7 p.m. non-conference match.
