Box Score (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The 16th-ranked/top-seeded Thomas More College women's soccer team defeated fourth-seeded Waynesburg University, 5-0, today (Wednesday, October 31, 2012) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Tournament semifinal match at The Bank of Kentucky Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 19-1-0 and advance to the PAC Tournament championship match on Saturday (November 3), where they host second-seeded Grove City College at 1:30 p.m. at The Bank of Kentucky Field. With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 9-9-1.
Thomas More took a 1-0 lead at the 28:04 mark when freshman forward Olivia Huber (Woodlawn, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) scored unassisted.
The Saints increased the lead to 2-0 when junior forward Courtney Clark (Burlington, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) scored at the 51:52 mark off a double assist from senior forward Lauren Wietmarschen (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) and senior midfielder Chrissy Sonderman (Independence, Ky./Holy Cross). Huber scored her second goal of the game at 59:21 off a double assist from Wietmarschen and freshman defender Abby Osborne (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) to extend the Saints' lead to 3-0. Clark scored off a cross from sophomore midfielder Sam Work (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) to increase the lead to 4-0 at 71:02. Senior midfielder Molly Leibel (Cold Springs, Ky./Bishop Brossart) closed out the scoring for the Saints at the 77:23 for the final score of 5-0.
Freshman goalkeeper Abbie McBride (Lakeville, Ind./LaVille) played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded four saves in the shutout.
Thomas More out-shot Waynesburg, 22-5, including 15-4 on-goal and won the battle of corner kicks, 5-2.
