Softball Sweeps Kentucky State on the Road

(FRANKFORT, Ky.)-Thomas More University's softball team defeated Kentucky State on Wednesday (April 8), 12-0 in game one and 10-1 (5-innings) in game two. The Saints record improves to 15-21 and 2-8 in conference.

How they scored
Game one: Thomas More won 12-0 
  • In the top of the third inning, sophomore Emma Fegan (Bargersville, Ind./Roncalli) doubled to left field to score junior Adi Johnson (Ross, Ohio/Ross) to put the Saints on the board 1-0. Senior Ashtyn Elbe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) had an RBI bunt to send in Emma Fegan to extend the lead to 2-0. First year Alisha Fox (Mason, Ohio/Mason) hit a singled to score sophomore Haylee Palmer (Lawrenceburg, Ind./Lawrenceburg) and Ashtyn Elbe to put the Saints up 4-0. 
  • Alisha Fox hit a three run homer in the top the fifth to make it a 7-0 game.
  • First year Kendyl Feutz (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington North) singled to left field to score sophomore Natalie Harris (Vandalia, Ohio/Vandalia Butler) in the top of the seventh (8-0). First year Abby Emswiler (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) recorded her first collegiate hit with a single to send home sophomore Avery Gottlieb (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) to put the Saints up 10-0. First year Izzy Hernandex (Erlanger, Ky./Lloyd) singled to bring in Adi Johnson (11-0). First year Allie Cunningham (Cincinnati, Ohio/West Clermont) would single to the second baseman to score sophomore Dani Oldfield (Walton, Ky./Walton Verona) (12-0).
Game two: Thomas More won 10-1 (5-innings) 
  • Sophomore Brooklyn Couch (Lawrenceburg, Ind./Lawrenceburg) scored on a bases loaded walk to put the Saints up 1-0 in the top of the second.
  • In the top of the third, Alisha Fox singled to the short stop to score Haylee Palmer (2-0). Alisha Fox would come home on an error by the second baseman to make it a 3-0 game. Brooklyn Couch doubled to left field to bring in Natalie Harris (4-0).
  • Haylee Palmer doubled to left field in the top of the fourth to score Ashtyn Elbe to make it a 5-0 game. Alisha Fox would single to right field to send in Haylee Palmer to extend the Saints lead to 6-0. 
  • Kentucky State would score one run in the fourth (6-1).
  • In the top of the fifth, junior Anna Greenwell (Ft. Thomas, Ky./Highlands) singled to the shortstop to score Brooklyn Couch (7-1). Anna Greenwell would then score on a ground out hit by Emma Fegan to make it a 8-1 game. Ashtyn Elbe would step up and single to second base to send in Adi Johnson (9-1). Haylee Palmer singled to center field to score Ashtyn Elbe for the Saints final run of the game and secure the 10-1 win over the Thorobreds.

  • Brooklyn Couch was 3-3 with a double, one RBI, and scored two runs.
  • Ashtyn Elbe went 2-4 with a double, one RBI, and scored two runs.
  • Haylee Palmer was 2-3 with a double, two RBIs, and scored two runs.
  • Alisha Fox went 2-3 with two RBIs and scored one run.
  • Anna Greenwell was 1-2 at the plate with one RBI and scored one run.

Game one:
  • Alisha Fox pitched 4.0 innings, allowing no runs off three hits and struck out six.
  • Avery Gottlieb pitched 3.0 innings, allowing no runs off two hits and struck out one.
Game two:
  • Avery Gottlieb pitched 4.0 innings, allowing one earned run off no hits and struck out four.
  • Junior Kylie Ropp (Bellefontaine, Ohio/Kenton Ridge) pitched 1.0 innings, allowing no runs off one hit.
