Lethbridge has 8 points as Saints defeat Cougars 20-15

(MOUNT VERNON, Ohio) – The Thomas More University men's lacrosse team defeated Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Wednesday evening (March 18) by a score of 20-15. The Saints improve to 3-4 overall.
 
How they scored
  • Mount Vernon Nazarene scored first, but freshman Eric Wong (Union, KY / Cooper) connected with senior Spencer Lethbridge (Cleveland, OH / Olmsted Falls) at 8:51 in the first quarter for the Saints first goal.
  • Senior Joe Mariani (Warners, NY / Mater Dei Academy / Onondaga CC) scored his first goal of the game at the 6:46 mark.
  • Senior David Billings (Shelbyville, KY / Martha Layne Collins) scored with just over five minutes to go in the opening quarter before sophomore Colin Scalise (Worthington, OH / Thomas Worthington) found the net as the period expired with an assist from Eric Wong.
  • While the Cougars scored first in the second quarter to take a 5-4 lead, five straight Thomas More goals gave the visitors the 9-5 lead. The goals were scored by junior Aspen Cameron (Plain City, OH / Jonathon Alder), redshirt sophomore Bryce Collins (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy / Mercyhurst), Joe Mariani, senior James Kendrick (Springboro, OH / Springboro) and Spencer Lethbridge with the final one scoring on a man-up scenario. Spencer Lethbridge, junior Noah Koenig (Erlanger, KY / Dixie Heights), and Bryce Collins each got an assist during the scoring run.
  • The Cougars got within a goal before Joe Mariani had his third goal at 10:57 in the third quarter. Mount Vernon Nazarene got one more goal before a seven-goal run by the Saints put them up 17-9 with 12:37 remaining in the game. During the run, Spencer Lethbridge, Eric Wong, and senior Graham Houser (Hilliard, OH / St. Charles) each had two goals. Both goals from Graham Houser and one from Spencer Lethbridge were scored on man-up situations. Bryce Collins had the final goal. Spencer Lethbridge added two more assists while Aspen Cameron had one.
  • Bryce Collins scored his final goal with just under nine minutes to go.
  • Joe Mariani had the last two goals for Thomas More. The final of his five goals was with an assist from Spencer Lethbridge and on a man-up scenario.
