Men's Basketball Battled it Out Against Malone for a Hard-Fought Victory

(CANTON, Ohio)-Thomas More University's men's basketball team defeated Malone on Saturday afternoon (Jan 17), 68-62. The Saints overall record improves to 9-7 and 3-6 in conference.

• Sophomore Jashaun Pouncy (Erlanger, Ky./Cooper) made one free throw to put the Saints on the board 1-0 with 19:49 on the clock.
• Redshirt first year Daniel Allen (Hodgenville, Ky./Larue County) drained a 3-point basket with 16:17 to play in the half to make it a 8-5 game.
• With 11:29 to play, redshirt sophomore Kai Simpson (Lexington, Ky./Frederick Douglass) knocked in a 3-point shot to tie things up 13-13.
• First year Colin McClure (Columbus, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) hit a jump shot to tie things up 24-24 with 4:24 left in the half.
• Jashaun Pouncy made a layup with two seconds left for the final basket of the half to put the Saints within two at the half (29-31).
• Kai Simpson led the team with 10 points and had three rebounds and one assist.
• Jashaun Pouncy recorded nine points, two rebounds, and one assist.
• The Saints were 40.7% (11-27) from the field, 50% (2-4) from the 3-point line, and 62.5% (5-8) from the free throw line in the first half.

• Kai Simpson started the scoring off for the Saints in the second half with layup with 17:23 on the clock (31-35).
• With 14:26 to play, Kai Simpson drove to the rim for a layup to tie things up 41-41.
• Redshirt junior Colin McHale (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) made a layup to put the Saints up 54-49 with 10:09 remaining in the game. 
• Jashuan Pouncy hit a jump shot with 4:33 to play to help the Saints regain the lead 59-58.
• Kai Simpson knocked in two free throws to secure the Saints 68-62 win over Malone with three seconds lefts on the clock.
• Kai Simpson led the team with 23 points and four rebounds and had one assist in the second half.
• Colin McHale also tallied four rebounds to lead the team and had seven points.
• The Saints were 46.4% (13-28) from the field, 20% (1-5) from the 3-point line, and 75% (12-16) from the free throw line in the second half.

• Kai Simpson recorded a career high 33 points to lead the team and led with seven rebounds and two assists.
• Jashaun Pouncy recorded a career high 15 points and had five rebounds and one assist.
• Daniel Allen had seven points and four rebounds.
• Colin McHale tallied seven points and four rebounds.
• The Saints were 43.6% (24-55) from the field, 33.3% (3-9) from the 3-point line, and 70.8% (17-24) from the free throw line.

The Saints return Thursday (Jan 22) against Kentucky Wesleyan at 7:30 pm ET in the Connor Convocation Center.
