Men's Lacrosse Drops Season Opener at Montevallo

(Montevallo, AL) - The Thomas More men's lacrosse team fell to Montevallo on Saturday (February, 15th) by a score of 19 to 13. Thomas More drops to 0-1 overall on the season.

• Montvallo scored the first two goals of the game to take a 2-0 lead.
• Junior Graham Houser (Hilliard, OH / St. Charles) scored the first goal of the season for the Saints off an assist from first year Colin Scalise (Westerville, OH / Thomas Worthington) (1-2).
• Montevallo responded with 11 straight goals to make it a 13 to 2 game.
• With 10:07 to go in the half, junior Joe Mariani (Warners, NY / Mater Dei) scored his first goal of the season to make it 13 to 3.
• A minute later, senior Colin Thornton (Grafton, MA / Grafton) put one in the net off an assist from graduate student Wyatt Fruland (Cincinnati, OH / Indian Hill). (4-13)
• Following another Montevallo goal, Wyatt Fruland scored off an assist from junior Spencer Lethbridge (Cleveland, OH / Olmsted Falls).
• Montevallo scored again to end the half making it a 15 to 4 game.
• Wyatt Fruland opened the second half with 2 quick goals off assists from Joe Mariani and sophomore Aspen Cameron (Plain City, OH / Jonathon Alder). (6-15)
• Montevallo recorded two more goals to make it a 17 to 6 game.
• Wyatt Fruland continued his productive day with another goal off an assist from sophomore Noah Koenig, then followed it up with an assist to Joe Mariani to make it a 17 to 8 game.
• Montevallo pushed it back to a 10 goal lead with 13:09 to play.
• Spencer Lethbridge scored off an assist from Wyatt Fruland, and Fruland then followed with another goal off an assist from Joe Mariani to make it 18 to 10.
• Wyatt Fruland added another point with an assist to Colin Thornton to make it a 7 goal game.
• Following a Montevallo goal, Joe Mariani scored off a Fruland assist. Then sophomore Collin Howard (Westerville, OH / Westerville North) scored to make it a 19 to 13 game.

• Wyatt Fruland led the Saints with 5 goals and 5 assists for 10 points on the day. He also tallied 2 ground balls.
• Joe Mariani tallied a hat trick with 3 goals to go witn his 2 assists and 2 ground balls.
• Colin Thornton recorded 2 goals on the day as well.
• Junior Patrick Giles (Goodyear, AZ / Desert Edge) led the Saint defense with 2 caused turnovers and 4 ground balls.
• Junior goalie Trevor Almanza (Fairfield, OH / Fairfield) tallied 15 saves.

Men's lacrosse will return to action on Saturday (February 22nd) when they travel to face Tusculum at 12:00 PM.
