Men's Basketball Comes Up Short on the Road Against KWC

(Owensboro, KY) - The Thomas More University Men's Basketball team traveled south to take on Kentucky Wesleyan on Wednesday (January, 29th). Thomas More fell to the Panthers by a score of 70 to 62. Thomas More moves to 12-8 overall on the season and 7-6 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play.

• Junior Mitchell Rylee (Ft. Mitchell, KY / Covington Catholic) scored the first bucket of the night for the Saints to cut into the early Kentucky Wesleyan lead.
• Mitchell Rylee continues his early work with two more buckets to make bring it to a 12 to 7 game as Thomas More trails with 15:44 to go in the half.
• Senior Wyatt Vieth (Hebron, KY / St. Henry) makes a bucket off an assist from redshirt first year Kai Simpson (Lexington, KY / Frederick Douglass) to make it a 7 point game.
• Kai Simpson and first year Jashaun Pouncy (Erlanger, KY / Cooper) score back to back buckets with 11:02 to go in the half to make it a 21 to 13 game.
• Wyatt Vieth drains a three pointer and Kai Simpson makes a layup to spark a Saint run as they cut it to a five point game.
• With 6:45 to go in the half, first year Tyler Johnson (Cincinnati, OH / Elder) makes a jumper to keep it at a 6 point game.
• Senior Casey George (Pickerington, OH / Pickerington North) scores his first points on the night off a pull up jumper with 4:46 to go in the half.
• Thomas More goes on a quick five point run with a three pointer from Casey George and a bucket from Pouncy (29-36).
• Back to back three pointers from sophomore Cam McClain (Louisville, Trinity) and redshirt first year Zion Crowe (Springfield, OH / Shawnee) take the Saints into half with the score 41 to 35 in favor of Kentucky Wesleyan.
• Thomas More shot 15-32 (46.9%) from the field, 4-12 (33.3%) from three, and 1-2 (50%) from the free throw line in the half.
• Mitchell Rylee and Jashaun Pouncy led the Saints in scoring with 6 a piece.
• Kai Simpson recorded a first half team high in assists with 4.
• Wyatt Vieth led the team in rebounding with 5.

• Casey George scored the first Saint points of the second half off a turn around jumper to make it a 43 to 37 game.
• With 17:52 to go in the game, Kai Simpson knocks down a three pointer to make it a five point game.
• Mitchell Rylee snaps a KWC run with a layup with 14:26 to go in the game.
• A layup from Zion Crowe, followed by a redshirt first year Jack McCune (Paducah, KY / McCracken County) three pointer brings it back to a single digit game with 11:54 to go.
• Pouncy makes another bucket to bring the score to 58 to 49 with 9:23 to go.
• Zion Crowe and sophomore Carson Browne (Cincinnati, OH / Elder) hit two more three pointers for the Saints to bring it to a 9 point game with 5:56 to go.
• With 2:21 to go, Tyler Johnson makes a layup to make it a 70 to 59 game.
• Carson Browne hits his second three pointer of the game in the closing minutes, and Thomas More falls 70 to 62.
• Thomas More shot 26-57 (45.6%) from the field, 9-25 (36%) from three, and 1-2 (50%) from the free throw line for the game.

• Kai Simpson led the Saints in scoring with 10 in the game. He also recorded a team high 5 assists.
• All 10 players that appeared in the game, scored a bucket for the Saints.
