Men's Basketball Kicks Off the New Year with a Victory Over Walsh

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.)- Thomas More University's men's basketball team opened up the New Year with a 75 to 57 victory over Walsh on Thursday (January, 2nd). Thomas More extends their win streak to four as they move to an overall record of 9-3 and a G-MAC record of 4-1. Thomas More saw five different Saints tally double figures in the victory.

First Half
  • Redshirt first year Zion Crowe (Springfield, OH / Shawnee) got the scoring started with a layup to tie the game at 2.
  • A jumper from redshirt first year Jack McCune (Paducah, KY / McCracken County) and a layup from senior Casey George (Pickerington, OH / Pickerington North) gave the Saints their first lead of the game with 16:56 to go in the first half (6-4).
  • Redshirt first year Kai Simpson (Lexington, KY / Frederick Douglass) knocks down the first Saint triple of the night to make it a 9 to 6 game.
  • With 12:32 to go in half, junior Mitchell Rylee (Ft. Mitchell, KY / Covington Catholic) scores five straight points to extend the Saint lead (14-9).
  • With 9:16 to go in the half, senior Wyatt Vieth (Hebron, KY / Saint Henry) drains his first three of the ball game to make it a 21 to 11 game.
  • Kai Simpson knocks down his second three pointer of the game, and followed by a three pointer from junior Ryan Paris (Hilliard, OH / Hilliard Davidson) to push the Saint lead to 13 (29-16).
  • With 4:25 to go in the half, Wyatt Vieth hits another three off an assist from Ryan Paris to make the score 34 to 18.
  • Casey George makes a bucket at the end of the half to send Thomas More to the break with a 38 to 22 lead.
  • Mitchell Rylee led the Saints with 9 first half points.
  • Wyatt Vieth tallied 8 points and 5 rebounds in the first half.
  • Thomas More shot 16-32 (50%) from the field, 5-10 (50%) from three, and 1-2 (50%) from the free throw line in the half.
Second Half
  • Kai Simpson recorded the first Saint points of the second half with a jumper to make it a 40 to 25 game.
  • With 14:45 to go, Kai Simpson ends a Cavalier run with a layup to put the Thomas More lead back to 11. (43-32)
  • Wyatt Vieth drains his third triple of the night with 13:18 on the clock to make it 48 to 37 game.
  • Zion Crowe makes a three pointer off an assist from Casey George with 9:36 on the clock to put the Saints in front by 12 (55-43).
  • Casey George makes a jumper in the lane with 6:59 to go to keep the Saint lead at 13.
  • With 2:46 to go in the game, Kai Simpson pulls down an offensive rebound and makes a bucket to make it a ten point game.
  • With 52 seconds to go, Casey George hits a three pointer off the assist from Kai Simpson to give Thomas More a 73 to 57 lead.
  • Thomas More goes on to win 75 to 57.
  • Kai Simpson recorded a team high 12 points in the second half. 
  • Thomas More shot 30-61 (49.2%) from the field, 8-22 (36.4%) from the three, and 7-10 (70%) from the free throw line for the game.
