Saints Storm Past Malone, Picks Up First DII and G-MAC Victories on Senior Day

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY) – The Thomas More University women's lacrosse team defeated the Malone Pioneers by a score of 20 to 5 on Saturday afternoon (April, 6th). Thomas More celebrated senior day where they honored their five seniors. This marks the first NCAA Division II and Great Midwest Athletic Conference victory for the program. Thomas More is now 1-12 overall on the season and 1-3 in G-MAC play.

How they scored
  • Sophomore Meg Pierani (Bright, IN / Mercy McAuley) got the scoring started with a goal on an assist from sophomore Sarah Metz (Middletown, OH / Little Miami).
  • First year Alex Nunn (Loveland, OH / Loveland) added to the lead with an unassisted goal to make it 2 to 0.
  • First year Anna Wells (West Chester, OH / Lakota West) made it a 3 to 0 game with an unassisted goal.
  • Malone responded with 2 goals to make it 3 to 2.
  • Anna Wells struck for her second goal of the day on an assist from senior Madi Carle (Cincinnati, OH / Mercy McAuley).
  • Malone answered with a goal to make it a 4 to 3 game.
  • Meg Pierani and Madi Carle each found the net for unassisted goals to end the first quarter with the score being 6 to 3.
  • Meg Pierani and Alex Nunn started the 2nd quarter with back to back goals to make it 8 to 3.
  • Senior Mckenzie Mobley (Harrison, OH / Harrison) joined the scoring and added an unassisted goal to make it 9 to 3.
  • Madi Carle picks up another assist this time on a goal by Meg Pierani to extend the lead.
  • First year Alexis Denman (Cincinnati, OH / Mercy McAuley) scores her first goal of the day making it a 11 to 3 game.
  • Malone adds a goal to make it a 7 goal game late in the 2nd quarter.
  • Anna Wells closes out the first half with back to back goals off assists from Alexis Denman and Sarah Mets to make it 13 to 4.
  • Sarah Metz and Madi Carle opened the second half with goals off assists from Anna Wells (15-4).
  • Alexis Denman scored off a Madi Carle assist to add to the Saint lead.
  • Meg Pierani tallies her 5th goal of the day to make it a 17 to 4 game.
  • Mckenzie Mobley scores again and Meg Pierani adds goal number 6 on the day to make it a 19 to 4 game.
  • Following a Malone goal, Alexis Denman finds the goal to make it a 20 to 5 final.
 
  • Meg Pierani led the Saints attack with 6 goals on the day to go with 2 caused turnovers.
  • Madi Carle recorded 2 goals and 3 assists (5 points) to go with a team high 7 ground balls, 4 caused turnovers and 3 draw controls.
  • Anna Wells tallied 4 goals and 2 assists (6 points) along with a team high 5 caused turnovers and 3 ground balls.

 

The Saints will return to action on Wednesday (April, 10th) when they travel to face Findlay. That game is scheduled to start at 4:00 PM.
