Softball Splits Series Against Malone

(CANTON, OH)-Thomas More University's softball team split their double header against Malone on Sunday (April 21) with fall in game one 3-2 and winning game two 16-5 (5-innings). The Saints overall record is now 14-30 and 8-14 in conference.


Game 1: Malone 3-2

• Senior Kai Dickerson (Walton, Ky./Ryle) singled in the top of the first inning to score graduate student Hailey McAdoo (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) to put the Saints up 1-0.
• Malone scored two runs in the third innning and one run in the fifth inning (1-3).
• In the top of the sixth inning, junior Josie Wefer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) doubled to score first year Anna Greenwell (Ft. Thomas, Ky./Highlands) to put the Saints within one (2-3).

Game 2: Thomas More 16-5 (5-innings)

• In the top of the second inning, sophomore Ashtyn Elbe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) hit a three run home run to score Josie Wefer and senior Delaney Kemper (Williamstown, Ky./Williamstown) (3-0). Senior Sarah Caruso (Rootstown, Ohio/Rootstown) doubled to send in graduate student Sydney Bledsoe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) to make it a 4-0 game. Hailey McAdoo would single to bring in Sarah Caruso to extend the lead to 5-0.
• Josie Wefer would hit a solo home run in the top of the third inning to give the Saints a 6-0 lead. Ashtyn Elbe would score on an error by the shortstop off a hit ball by Sarah Caruso (7-0). Hailey McAdoo singled to send home Sarah Caruso and Sydney Bledsoe (9-0).
• Sophomore Makayla Blair (London, Ky./South Laurel) doubled to score Josie Wefer in the top of the fourth inning (10-0). Ashtyn Elbe would then single to score Makayla Blair to extend the lead to 11-0.
• Malone scored one run in the fourth inning (11-1).
• In the top of the fifth inning, Hailey McAdoo walk home on a bases load walk to make it a 12-1 game. First year Shelby Hill () singled to bring in sophomore Alexis Wheeler (Lebanon, Ky./Marion County) (13-1). Kai Dickerson would score on an error by the right fielder to put the Saints up 14-1. First year Sophia Pearson (Fort Recovery, Ohio/Fort Recovery) scored on a ground out hit by Makayla Blair (15-1). Sophomore Mallory Carney (Sardinia, Ohio/Eastern Brown) singled to send home the Saints final run (Shelby Hill) for 16 runs.
• Malone scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning (16-5).

Game 1:

• Anna Greenwell went 2-3 at the plate and scored one run.
• Josie Wefer was 2-3 with one RBI.

Game 2:

• Hailey McAdoo was 4-5 at the plate with three RBIs and scored one run.
• Josie Wefer went 3-3 with one RBI, one double, one home run, and scored three runs.
• Ashtyn Elbe was 2-2 with four RBIS, one home run, and scored two runs.
• Sydney Bledsoe was 2-3 with a triple and scored two runs.
• Sarah Caruso at the plate was 2-4 with one RBI, a double, and scored two runs. Makayla Blair was 1-2 with a double. two RBIs, and scored one run.

Game 1:

• Graduate student Annika Gels (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) pitched 6.0 innings, allowing three runs with two earned off nine hits and struck out six.

Game 2:

• First Year Kylie Ropp (Bellefontaine, Ohio/Kenton Ridge) pitched 4.1 innings, allowing one earned run off five hits and struck out three.
• Senior Cassidy King (Hubber Heights, Ohio/Wayne) pitched 0.2 innings, allowing four runs with one earned off six hits.

The Saints return on Wednesday (April 24) against #3 UIndy in a double header at Thomas More Softball Field beginning at 3:30 pm ET.
