Saints Sweep Sunday Doubleheader Against Lake Erie, Split Series

(FLORENCE, KY)-Thomas More University's baseball team took both games of the Sunday (April, 21st) doubleheader against Lake Erie. The Saints won game one by a score of 10-8 and took game two by a score of 10 to 0. Thomas More improves to an overall record of 13-30 on the season and 6-22 in G-MAC play.


Game 1: Thomas More 10-8 (7-innings)

• Senior Gavin Pearson (Burlington, KY / Cooper) put the Saints on the scoreboard with an RBI single to put the Saints in front.
• Senior Brady Baldock (Burlington, KY / St. Henry) followed with an RBI single to make it a 2-0 game.
• Graduate student Derek Atwood (Burlington, Ky./Conner) continued the big inning with a 3 RBI double to make it a 5 to 0 game.
• First year Ty Cunningham (Fairfield, OH / Fairfield) capped off the first inning with a 2 RBI single to make it a 7 spot for the Saints.
• Lake Erie plated 3 runs in the second to make it a 7 to 3 game.
• Ty Cunningham hit an RBI single in the 2nd inning to make it a 5 run game.
• Lake Erie added another run in the 3rd on a home run.
• In the 4th inning, junior AJ Enginger (Hamilton, OH / Badin) hit an RBI single to make it a 9 to 4 game.
• Lake Erie scored another run in the 5th inning to make it a 9 to 5 game.
• Brady Baldock hit an RBI single in the bottom of the 5th to bring home the 10th Saint run of the day.
• Lake Erie would add 2 runs in the 6th and a run in the 7th to make it a 10 to 8 game.

Game 2: Thomas More 10-0 (7-innings)

• Gavin Pearson and sophomore Gunner Kalkhoff (Cincinnati, OH / LaSalle) each hit an RBI single in the first inning to make it an early 2 to 0 lead for the Saints.
• First year Drew Edrich (Cleves, OH / Elder) hit a solo home run, the first of his career, to make it a 3-0 game in the 2nd.
• In the 4th inning, junior Gavin Vogelgesang (Cincinnati, OH / St. Xavier) hit an RBI single to bring home the 4th Saint run of the game.
• Junior Ben Duncan (Hilliard, OH / Hilliard Bradley) gut a 2 RBI single in the 5th to make it a 6 to 0 game.
• Drew Edrich hit a 2 RBI double to make the score 8 to 0 after five innings.
• Edrich hit his second double of the game in the 7th to bring home another Saint, making it 9 to 0.
• Gavin Pearson walked to bring home the game ending run in the 7th.

Game 1:

• Derek Atwood went 2-4 at the plate with 3 RBIs, 2 doubles and 2 runs scored.
• Brady Baldock went 2-4 at the plate with 2 RBIs.
• First year Sam Bond (St. Leon, IN / East Central) went 3 for 3 at the plate with a double and 2 runs scored.
• Ty Cunningham recorded 2 hits on the day with 3 RBIs.
• All 9 starters recorded a hit in the game.

Game 2:

• Drew Edrich went 3 for 3 at the dish with 4 RBIs, a home run and 2 doubles.
• Ben Duncan went 2-4 at the plate with 2 RBIs in the game.
• Gavin Pearson went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs and 2 walks.

Game 1:

• Junior Austin Dennis (Cincinnati, OH / Oak Hills) pitched 2.0 innings, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits and recording 3 punch outs.
• First year Joe Stone (Greenwood, IN / Center Grove) pitched 3.2 innings, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits and striking out 1. He picked up the win.
• Junior George Donohoe (Villa Hills, KY / Immaculate Conception) pitched 1.1 innings, allowing a run on 2 hits and striking out 3. He picked up the save.

Game 2: 

• First year Ethan Stone (Hamilton, OH / Hamilton) pitched 4.1 innings of no run baseball. He struck out 7 batters and picked up the win.
• First year Nolan Krekeler (Loveland, Ohio/Moeller) pitched 2.2 innings, allowing no runs off two hits and struck out one.

The Saints returns Wednesday when they travel to take on Miami-Hamilton. First pitch is set for 4:00 PM.
