Softball Splits with Walsh to Open the Weekend

(NORTH CANTON, OH)-Thomas More University's softball team split with Walsh on Saturday afternoon (April 20) in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference doubleheader. The Saints took game one by a score of 4 to 3 before falling in game two by a score of 3 to 2. Thomas More is now 13-29 on the season and 7-13 in G-MAC play.

How they scored
Game 1: Thomas More 4-3
  • Senior Delaney Kemper (Williamstown, Ky./Williamstown) his an RBI double in the 1st to give the Saints an early lead.
  • Walsh answered with a 2 run homer in the bottom of the first to take the lead 2 to 1.
  • Walsh added a run in the 5th to make it a 3 to 1 game.
  • Sophomore Ashtyn Elbe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) walked to bring in a run in the 6th to make it a 3 to 2 game.
  • Also in the 6th, graduate student Hailey McAdoo (Cincinnati, Ohio) reached on a fielders choice that brought in the tying run to make it 3 to 3 heading into the final inning.
  • Kemper would hit an RBI double in the 7th to give Thomas More the go ahead run.
Game 2: Walsh 3-2
  • McAdoo gave the Saints the lead in the 3rd inning with an RBI double to make it 1 to 0.
  • Walsh tallied 2 runs in the 3rd and one more in the 5th to take a 3 to 1 lead.
  • Junior Emily Allphin (New Richmond, OH / Milford) hit a solo home run in the 7th to make it a 3 to 2 game.

Game 1:
  • Graduate student Annika Gels (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) pitched 7.0 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits. She struck out 5 batters and picked up her 10th win of the season.
Game 2:
  • First year Kylie Ropp (Bellefontaine, OH / Kenton Ridge) pitched 6.0 innings. She allowed 3 runs on 7 hits and struck out 4 in the game.
