Softball Comes Out Undefeated with Sweep of Lake Erie

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY)-Thomas More University's softball team swept Lake Erie on Sunday afternoon (April 14) to go undefeated on the weekend. The Saints won 1-0 in game one (9-innings) and 10-5 in game two. The Saints overall record improves to 11-27 and 6-12 in conference.

How they scored
Game 1: Thomas More 1-0 (9-innings)
  • Junior Josie Wefer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) singled to centerfield in the bottom of the ninth inning to score first year transfer Anna Greenwell (Ft. Thomas, Ky./Highlands) for the game winning running (1-0).
Game 2: Thomas More 10-5
  • Lake Erie scored one run in the top of the third (0-1).
  • Senior Kai Dickerson (Walton, Ky./Ryle) drilled a ball to the centerfield fence for a triple in the bottom of the third to send in graduate student Sydney Bledsoe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills), first year Adi Johnson (Ross, Ohio/Ross), and Anna Greenwell to give the Saints the lead (3-1).
  • Lake Erie scored three runs in the top of thr fourth inning (3-4).
  • In the bottom of the sixth inning, senior Delaney Kemper (Williamstown, Ky./Williamstown) started off the inning drilling the scoreboard in left field for a solo home run to tie the game up at 4-4. Sydney Bledsoe singled up the middle to score senior Sarah Caruso (Rootstown, Ohio/Rootstown) to help the Saints regain the lead (5-4). Graduate student Becca Mowen (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) doubled to the center field fence to score Sydney Bledsoe (6-4). Adi Johnson scored on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 7-4. Anna Greenwell doubled to shallow right field to send in graduate student Hailey McAdoo (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) to make it a 8-4 game. Kai Dickerson singled to left field to score Anna Greenwell to put the Saints up 9-4. Delaney Kemper would step up to the plate again and double to centerfield to score Kai Dickerson for the Saints final run (10-4).
  • Lake Erie scored one run in the top of the seventh inning (10-5).

Game 1: Game 2:
Game 1:
  • Graduate student Annika Gels (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) pitched 9.0 innings, allowing no runs off three hits and struck out four.
Game 2:
  • First year Kylie Ropp (Bellefontaine, Ohio/Kenton Ridge) pitched 3.1 innings, allowing four runs with three earned off six hits and struck out one.
  • Senior Cassidy King (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne) pitched 3.2 innings, allowing one earned run off one hit and struck out one.

The Saints return to action on Thursday (April 18) against Kentucky State in a double header beginning at 1:00 pm at Thomas More Softball Stadium.
