Saints Defeat Holy Family in High Scoring Battle

(AUBURNDALE, FL)- Thomas More's baseball team took down Holy Family on Wednesday (March, 6th) in the RussMatt Tournament by a score of 18 to 13. The Saints improve to an overall record of 7-4 on the season.

• In the second inning junior Derek Marinucci (Canton, MI / Divine Child) hits an RBI single and first year Ty Cunningham (Fairfield, OH / Fairfield) hits a sac fly to give the Saints a 2-0 lead.
• Junior Gavin Vogelgesang (Cincinnati, OH / St. Xavier) brings home another Saint run with an RBI single.
• Saints score five runs in the 3rd inning thanks to RBI singles from Ty Cunningham and graduate student Derek Atwood (Burlington, KY / Conner), an RBI double from junior AJ Enginger (Hamilton, OH / Badin) and a 2 RBI double from senior Brady Baldock (Burlington, KY / St. Henry) (8-0).
• Holy Family scored 11 runs in the 4th inning to take the lead (8-11).
• A Gavin Vogelgesang RBI single brings the Saints within 2 runs in the 5th.
• Also in the 5th, junior Ben Duncan (Hilliard, OH / Hilliard Bradley) hits a 2 RBI double to tie the game at 11.
• Holy Family scored a run in the 6th to take a one run lead.
• After a few Saints reach base on walks and hit by pitches, Thomas More scores 2 more runs on errors (13-12).
• Ty Cunningham brings another Saint home with a sacrifice to make it 14 to 12.
• Senior Gavin Pearson (Burlington, KY / Cooper) caps off the 6th inning with an RBI single to make it 15 to 12.
• Holy Familiy tallies another run in the 7th.
• Sophomore Jeremy Ward (Cincinnati, OH / Elder) picks up an RBI with a bases loaded walk and AJ Enginger scored on a wild pitch to make it 17-13.
• Brady Baldock hits an RBI double in the 8th to make it 18 to 13.

• Brady Baldock led the Saints by going 3-4 at the plate with 3 RBIs and 2 walks with 3 doubles.
• Derek Atwood went 3-5 with a double and a walk and a RBI.
• Ty Cunningham wen 1-2 with 3 RBIs in the game.

• Jacob Murphey pitched 3.1 innings in the start. He allowed 6 runs and struck out 3.
• Sophomore Ian Bierbaum (Cincinnati, OH / LaSalle) pitched 0.1 innings and gave up 2 runs.
• First year Joe Stone (Waynesville, OH / Waynesville) pitched 0.1 innings and allowed 3 runs with a strikeout.
• First year Ethan Stone (Hamilton, OH / Hamilton) pitched 1.0 innings where he struck out 2 and allowed a run.
• Senior Zach Dugan (Cincinnati, OH / Elder) picked up the win as he pitched 1.2 innings and gave up 1 run.
• Sophomore Cody Watkins (Cincinnati, OH / Lakota East) pitched 1.1 innings of shutout baseball.
• Ben Duncan pitched a shutout inning for the Saints.

The Saints return to action tomorrow for another game at RussMatt in Florida against Northwood. That game is set to start at 12:00 PM.
