(CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY) - The Thomas More baseball team fell in both game of a doubleheader to Ohio Dominican on Friday (March, 29th) afternoon. ODU won the opening game by a score of 10 to 6. The Panthers took game two by a score of 5 to 4 in 7 innings. Thomas More drops to an overall record of 10-16 on the season and a Great Midwest Athletic Conference record of 3-9.
Game 1: Ohio Dominican 10-6
- ODU scored 1 in the first and 2 in the second to take an early 3-0 lead.
- In the bottom of the 3rd, first year Sam Bond (St. Leon, IN / East Central) hits a two RBI double to make it a 3 to 2 game.
- In the 4th inning, junior Gavin Vogelgesang (Cincinnati, OH / St. Xavier) hits a sacrifice fly to bring in a run and tie the game at 3.
- Saints struck again in the 5th inning when graduate student Derek Atwood (Burlington, KY / Conner) hit an RBI single to bring in a run. (4-3)
- Also in the 5th, sophomore Gunner Kalkhoff (Cincinnati, OH / LaSalle) hits a fielders choice that scores a run for an RBI. (5-3)
- Sam Bond struck again in the 6th inning with another double to add to the Saint lead (6-3).
- Ohio Dominican hit a home run in the 8th to make it 6 to 4.
- ODU tallied 6 runs in the 9th to take a 10 to 6 lead.
Game 2: Ohio Dominican 5-4 (7 innings)
- Ohio Dominican pushed four runs across in the 2nd inning to take an early lead.
- In the bottom of the third, Gavin Pearson hits an RBI triple to put the Saints on the scoreboard.
- Also in the third, Sam Bond drives Pearson in with an RBI single. (4-2)
- In the bottom of the 4th, Sam Bond drills his third double of the day to drive in two Saints and tie the game at 4.
- ODU took back the lead with one run in the top of the 7th to make it 5 to 4.
Game 1:
- Senior Gavin Pearson (Burlington, KY / Cooper) went 3-4 at the plate and scored 3 runs for the Saints.
- Sam Bond went 2-5 with 2 doubles and 3 RBIs is the game.
- Senior Brady Baldock (Burlington, KY / St. Henry) went 2-4 at the plate with a run scored and a walk.
- Derek Atwood went 2-5 at the plate with an RBI.
Game 2:
- Sam Bond went 2-3 at the plate with a double and 3 RBIs.
- Gavin Pearson went 2-3 with a walk, triple, RBI and two runs scored.
Game 1:
- Sophomore Jack Perdue (Louisville, KY / Christian Academy) got the start and pitched 7.0 innings. He allowed 4 runs on 9 hits and struck out 1.
- Senior Zach Dugan (Cincinnati, OH / Elder) pitched 1.0 innings, allowing 5 runs on 2 hits.
- Junior George Donohoe (Villa Hills, KY / Immaculate Conception) pitched 1.0 innings, allowing 1 run and struck out 2.
Game 2:
- First year Jacob Murphy (Greenwood, IN / Center Grove) got the start and pitched the complete 7 innings. He allowed 5 runs on 8 hits and struck out a career high 10 batters on the day.
The Saints return tomorrow to finish a four game series with Ohio Dominican. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM.
