Baseball Splits Day Two Series Against Walsh; Martin Gets 100th Coaching Win

(FLORENCE, KY)-Thomas More University's baseball team split day two of their series against Walsh on Sunday (March 24). The Saints won in game one 5-4 in seven innings and fell in game two 15-4. The Saints overall record is now 9-13 and 2-6 in conference.

How they scored
Game 1: Thomas More 5-4 (7-innings)
  • Walsh scored on run in the top of the first inning (0-1).
  • In the bottom of the first inning, first year Sam Bond (St. Leon, Ind./East Central) hit a ball to center field to score junior Gavin Vogelgesang (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) to tie the game up at 1-1.
  • Walsh scored two runs in the top of the third inning (1-3).
  • Junior AJ Enginger (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) scored off a ball hit by junior Ben Duncan (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley) in the bottom of the third to put the Saints within one (2-3).
  • Walsh scored one run in the top of the fifth inning (1-4).
  • Sam Bond hit a sac fly to center field to send in Gavin Vogelgesang in the bottom of the sixth inning (2-4). Senior Brady Baldock (Burlington, Ky./St. Henry) drilled a ball down the left field line for a double and scored Ben Duncan and senior Gavin Pearson (Burlington, Ky./Cooper) to give the Saints the lead (5-4).
Game 2: Walsh
  • Walsh scored one run in the top of the first, two runs in the top of the second, two runs in the top of the third, and one run in the top of the fourth inning (0-6).
  • Sam Bond doubled to left field in the bottom of the fourth to score Gavin Pearson to make it a 1-6 game. 
  • In the bottom of the fifth inning, Gavin Pearson crushed a ball over the left field fence for a two run home run to put the Saints within three (3-6).
  • Walsh scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning (3-8).
  • Brady Baldock scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning (4-8).
  • Walsh scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning and three runs in the top of the ninth (4-15).

  • Sophomore Jack Perdue (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy) pitched 6 innings, allowing four earned runs off six hits and struck out seven.
  • Senior Zach Dugan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) got the save for the Saints, pitching 1 innings, allowing no runs off one hit and struck out one.
Game 2:
  • Junior Jackson Grimmelsmann (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) pitched 4 innings, allowing six runs with five earned off nine hits and struck out one.
  • Sophomore Ian Bierbaum (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle) pitched 2 innings, allowing two earned runs off four hits.
  • Junior George Donohoe (Villa Hills, Ky./Immaculate Conception) pitched 2 innings, allowing four earned runs off three hits and struck out three.
  • Sophomore transfer Jack Rutz (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle) pitched 1.0 innings, allowing three earned runs off five hits and struck out one.
