Baseball Completes Sweep of Bobcats with Two Sunday Wins

(FLORENCE, KY)- Thomas More's baseball team swept West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon with a game one win by score of 2 to 1 and a game two score of 7 to 6. Thomas More improves to 4-3 overall on the season.


Game 1: Thomas More 2-1 (7 innings)

• With a scoreless game in the 6th, graduate student Derek Atwood (Burlington, KY / Conner) drills a ball over the left center fence for a two run home run.
• WV Wesleyan scores on an RBI triple to make it a 2-1 game.

Game 2: Thomas More 7-6

• Gavin Pearson hits a sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the first inning to bring home Vogelgesang. (1-0)
• In the second inning, first year Matt Resing (Independence, KY / St. Henry) hits an RBI single for another run. Junior AJ Enginger (Hamilton, OH / Badin) comes home on a wild pitch for a two run inning. (3-0)
• First year Sam Bond (St. Leon, IN / East Central) goes yard in the fourth inning for his first career home run. (4-0)
• WV Wesleyan scores a run in the 5th and 3 runs in the 6th to tie the game.
• Person answers for the Saints in the bottom half of the 6th with a 2 RBI single. (6-4)
• WV Wesleyan scores another run in the 7th, and ties the game up in the top of the 9th with an RBI single. (6-6)
• With bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th, AJ Enginger hits a line drive up the middle for an RBI to walk it off for the Saints.

Game 1:

• Derek Atwood went 2-3 at the plate with 2 RBIs, and a HR.
• Senior Gavin Pearson (Burlington, KY / Cooper) goes 1-3 at the plate with a run scored.
• Junior Gavin Vogelgesang (Cincinnati, OH / St. Xavier) went 1-3 at the plate.

Game 2:

• Sam Bond went 3-4 at the plate with a home run and a double to go with an RBI and a walk.
• Sophomore Gunner Kalkhoff (Cincinnati, OH / LaSalle) recorded 3 hits on the day and 2 runs scored.
• Gavin Pearson recorded 3 RBIs on one hit at the plate.

Game 1:

• Junior Jackson Grimmelsman (Cincinnati, OH / Elder) picked up the win as he threw 6.1 innings of 1 run baseball, allowing 4 hits and striking out 3.
• Sophomore Kellen Sandhas (Cincinnati, OH / Elder) came in and closed the door to pick up his first save on the season. He pitched 0.2 innings and tallied a strikeout.

Game 2:

• Sophomore Jack Perdue (Louisville, KY / Christian Academy) got the start and pitched 6.0 innings, allowing 4 earned runs on 7 hits and striking out 2.
• First year Joe Stone (Waynesville, OH / Waynesville) came in and pitched 0.1 innings allowing 2 hits and an earned run.
• Kellen Sandhas returned in game two and pitched 2.2 innings and picked up the win. He allowed one hit, one run and struck out one.

The Saints return to action when they travel to Florida to play in the RussMatt on March 4 in Auburndale, FL against Notre Dame College at 9:45 am ET.
