Baseball Defeats WV Wesleyan in Game One

(FLORENCE, KY)-Thomas More University's baseball team defeated WV Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon (Feb 24), 13-6. The Saints overall record improves to 2-3.

• Sophomore Jeremy Ward (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) singled through the middle on the left side to score senior Gavin Pearson (Burlington, Ky./Cooper) in the bottom of the first inning (1-0).
• In the top of the third inning, WV Wesleyan would score one run to tie the game up at 1-1.
• First year Sam Bond (St. Leon, Ind./East Central) doubled down the left field line in the bottom of the third to send in Jeremy Ward and sophomore Gunner Kalkhoff (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle) to help the Saints regain the lead 3-1. First year Ty Cunningham (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) doubled to left center and score Sam Bond to make it a 4-1 game.
• WV Wesleyan would score two runs in the top of the fourth inning (4-3).
• In the top of the fourth inning, Gunner Kalkhoff singled to center field to bring in sophomore Ben Duncan (Hilliard, Ohio/Hillard Davidson) to extend the Saints lead to 5-3.
• Ben Duncan doubled to left center in the bottom of the fifth inning to send in sophomore Riley Poston (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) and Sam Bond (7-3).
• Jeremy Ward doubled up the middle to score Gunner Kalkhoff in the bottom of sixth to put the Saints up 8-3. Junior Derek Marinucci (Canton, Mich./Divine Child) singled to centerfield to send in Sam Bond and Jeremy Ward (10-3).
• WV Wesleyan scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning (10-6).
• Junior AJ Enginger (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) singled to centerfield in the bottom of the eighth to send in first year Matt Resing (Independence, Ky./St. Henry) and Sam Bond (12-6). Gavin Pearson would single up the middle for the Saints final run of the game by Ben Duncan (13-6).

• Ben Duncan was 4-6 at the plate with a double, two RBIs, and scored two runs.
• Gunner Kalkhoff went 3-6 with one double, one RBI, and scored two runs.
• Gavin Pearson went 2-5 with one RBI and scored one run.
• Jeremy Ward went 2-4 with one double, two RBIs, and scored two runs.
• Sam Bond was 2-2 with two RBIs and scored four runs.

• Junior Austin Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) pitched 6.0 innings, allowing three runs off five hits with two earned and struck out three.
• First year Ethan Stone (Hamilton, Ohio/Hamilton) pitched 0.2 innings, allowing three earned runs off two hits.
• Senior Zach Dugan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) pitched 2.1 innings, allowing no runs off two hits.

The Saints return to action tomorrow (Feb 25) in a double header against WV Wesleyan at Thomas More Stadium beginning at noon.
