Wells and Denman Record Hat Tricks in Sunday Loss

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY) – The Thomas More University women's lacrosse lost to Notre Dame College on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 18th) by a score of 17 to 12. First years Anna Wells (West Chester, OH / Lakota West) and Alexis Denman (Cincinnati, OH / Mercy McAuley) each scored three goals in the contest. 

How they scored
  • Notre Dame started off hot with 4 quick goals to take the early lead.
  • With 7:55 to go in the first, Alexis Denman scored her first goal of the day to put the Saints on the scoreboard (1-4).
  • Notre Dame responded with two more goals to stretch their lead (1-6).
  • Denman answered back with another unassisted goal to make it 6 to 2.
  • Notre Dame scored two more goals to take a 6 goal lead as we entered the second quarter.
  • Alexis Denman picked up the hat trick with a Saint goal off an assist from sophomore Meg Pierani (Bright, IN / Mercy McAuley) (3-8).
  • Anna Wells followed a few minutes later with a power play goal on an assist from senior Madi Carle (Cincinnati, OH / Mercy McAuley) (4-8).
  • Notre Dame scored with 7:18 to go in the half to make it 9 to 4.
  • Anna Wells picked up her second goal of the game, this time on an assist from sophomore Lexi Williams (Cincinnati, OH / Oak Hills) (5-9).
  • Notre Dame scored again with 6:10 to go to keep it at a five goal game (5-10).
  • Meg Pierani scored an unassisted goal a few minutes later for the Saints.
  • Notre Dame responded with another goal a minute later (6-11).
  • Sophomore Sarah Metz (Middletown, OH / Little Miami) and Meg Pierani score back to back goals to open the second half for the Saints to bring them within 3. (8-11).
  • Notre Dame scores two more goals to push it back to five. (8-13).
  • Madi Carle catches a pass from Lexi Williams and finds the goal with 2:17 to go in the third. (9-13).
  • Notre Dame scores four straight to open the final quarter (9-17).
  • Anna Wells scored her third goal with 2:49 to go to pick up the hat trick (10-17).
  • Senior Mckenzie Mobley (Harrison, OH / Harrison) scores back to back unassisted goals to make it a five goal game (12-17).
 
  • Anna Wells scored three goals with 7 shots on goal to go along with 7 draw controls, a caused turnover and 3 ground balls in the contest. 
  • Alexis Denman tallied 3 goals, a ground ball and a caused turnover.
  • Madi Carle led the team in ground balls with 5 and caused turnovers with 5 to go with a goal and an assist.
  • Meg Pierani recorded 2 goals, an assist, 3 ground balls and 2 caused turnovers.
  • First year goalie Kaylynn White (Fort Bragg, KY / Louisville Male) recorded 11 saves for the Saints.

 

The Saints will return to action on Friday (Feb 23) when they host Indianapolis at Republic Bank Field. That game is set to behin at 5:00 PM.
