Baseball Falls in Season Opening Heartbreaker

(FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA)-Thomas More University's baseball team fell to Emmanuel on Friday afternoon (Feb 16), 7-5. The Saints overall record falls to 0-1

• Sophomore Ben Duncan (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley) singled to 2nd in the top of the second to send in sophomore Jeremy Ward (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) to put the Saints on the board 1-0. Junior AJ Enginger (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) drove the ball up the middle for an RBI single to score Ben Duncan and extend the lead to 2-0.
• In the top of the third inning, Ben Duncan would single to left field for another RBI single to score sophomore Gunner Kalkhoff (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle) (3-0).
• First year Sam Bond (St. Leon, Ind./East Central) hit a single to the pitcher to send in junior Gavin Vogelgesang (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) to put the Saints up 4-0.
• In the top of the fifth inning, Ben Duncan would hit a sac fly to left field to send to Jeremy Ward (5-0).
• Emmanuel would score two runs in the bottom of the fifth and five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning (5-7).

• Gavin Vogelgesang went 3-4 at the plate and scored one run.
• Jeremy Ward was 3-4 and scored two runs.
• Ben Duncan was 2-4 with three RBIs and scored one run.

• Junior Austin Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) pitched 4.1 innings, allowing two unearned runs off three hits and struck out three.
• Senior Zach Dugan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) pitched 2.2 innings, allowing no runs off two hits.
• First year Jacob Murphy (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) pitched 0.0 innings, allowing four runs with three earned off three hits.
• First year Joe Stone (Waynesville, Ohio/Waynesvilles) pitched 1.0 innings, allowing one earned run off one hit and struck out one.
