Second Half Rally and Game Winning Free Throw Propel Saints to Road Victory

(HILLSDALE, MI)- Thomas More University men's basketball team defeated Hillsdale on Thursday night (Jan 4), 71-70. Junior Jacob Jones (Jeffersonville, Ind./Jeffersonville) knocked down a free throw in the final second of the game to give the Saints the victory. The Saints overall record improves to 10-4 and 5-1 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.

First Half
  • Junior Casey George (Pickerington, OH / Pickerington North) got the scoring started for the Saints with a layup to tie the game (2-2).
  • Casey George continued a hot start with two more jumpers and a three pointer with 17:39 to go in the half to put the Saints in front by two (9-7).
  • With 14:25 to go in the half, Jacob Jones scores back to back buckets to retake the lead for the Saints (13-11).
  • Casey George and junior Kyle Ross (St. John, Ind./Lake Central) make buckets for the Saints in a back and forth stretch with 12 minutes to go in the half (17-16).
  • A layup from first year Carson Browne (Cincinnati, OH / Elder) extends the Saints lead to three (19-16).

  • Junior Wyatt Vieth (Hebron, KY / St. Henry) ties the game at 70 with a layup with 38 seconds to go. 
  • With less then a second to go, Jacob Jones got fouled and made a free throw to win the game for Thomas More (71-70).
