Women's Volleyball Drops G-MAC Opener at Cedarville Friday Night

(CEDARVILLE, OH) – The Thomas More University women's volleyball team lost to the Cedarville University Yellow Jackets on the road Friday night in their Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) opener, 3-0. The Saints are now 1-8 this season.

 

• The Saints fell in set one 25-12.
• Junior Jess Gearries (Avon, IN / Avon) and sophomore Brenna Young (Spring Hill, TN / South Oldham) both had two kills in the first set.
• The second set was knotted up at 7-7 before Cedarville used a 9-5 push to take a 16-12 lead.
• The Saints cut the lead down to three on a pair of occasions but would ultimately drop the set 25-21.
• The final set saw Thomas More take an 11-9 advantage after trailing 8-4 early on.
• Their 7-1 rally was fueled by a pair of kills by Young and sophomore Emily Acito (Cincinnati, OH / Mercy McAuley).
• Their lead would grow to 15-12 before a 4-1 rally from Cedarville tied the set at 16-16.
• A kill from Acito and Young paired with a Yellow Jacket error ignited a 3-1 flurry to give the Saints a 19-17 lead.
• A 6-0 run from Cedarville put the match away for the Yellow Jackets as they would go on to win the set 25-21 and the match 3-0.

 

• Emily Acito and Brenna Young both had nine kills, with Young hitting .421 in the match.
• Junior Sam McClanahan (Georgetown, KY / Scott County) had 23 assists.
• Junior Asia Ferrando (Masone, Italy / Barletti Ovada) recorded 11 digs.
• Junior Sydney Hilderbran (Cincinnati, OH / Lakota West) had a pair of block assists in the match.

 

The Saints have their home opener in the Connor Convocation Center on Tuesday afternoon against the Trevecca Nazarene University Trojans at 4:00 p.m.
