Saints Complete the Sweep, Move on in MSC Tournament

(FLORENCE, Ky.)-No. 4 seed Thomas More University baseball team defeated No. 9 seed Bethel (Tenn.) in game two of the Mid-South Conference Opening Round on Saturday afternoon, (April 29) 5-4. The Saints overall record improves to 32-17. 

How they scored
  • Bethel took an early lead on a solo home run in the 2nd inning. (0-1)
  • Junior Brady Baldock (Burlington, Ky. / St. Henry), hits an RBI double to tie the game and comes home to score on a sacrifice fly from sophomor Gavin Vogelgesang (Cincinnati, Ohio / St. Xavier) to take the lead after the third inning. (2-1)
  • Sophomore Brennan Martin (Cincinnati, Ohio / Elder) hits into a double play that brought home another Thomas More run to extend their lead in the 4th inning. (3-1)
  • Bethel scores a run in each of the 5th, 6th and 7th innings to take a 1 run lead. (3-4)
  • Sophomore AJ Enginger (Hamilton, Ohio / Badin) scores on a wild pitch to tie it back up. (4-4)
  • Junior Gavin Pearson (Burlington, Ky. / Cooper) hits an RBI single to take the lead for the Saints in the 7th inning. (5-4)
  • Senior Derek Atwood (Burlington, Ky. / Conner) went 3-4 at the plate for the Saints.
  • Brady Baldock went 1-2 with an RBI, 2 runs scored, a double, and a sacrifice.
  • AJ Enginger went 1-3 with 2 runs scored and a double.
  • Gavin Pearson went 1-4 with an RBI.
  • Sophomore Austin Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio / Oak Hills) pitched 5 innings for the Saints. Allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, and struck out 3.
  • First year Kellen Sandhas (Cincinnati, Ohio / Elder) pitched 2 innings for the Saints. Allowed 2 runs on 3 hits and recorded a strike out. He picked up the win.
  • Graduate student Justin Bierbaum (Bridgetown, Ohio / LaSalle) pitched 2 innings for the Saints. Allowed 0 runs and 2 hits, recording 2 strike outs and picking up the save.

The Saints return to action next week when they travel to Bowling Green, Ky. to compete in the next rounds of the Mid South Conference Tournament.
